000028665 520__ $$9APS$$aThe doubly charmed baryon decay <math><msubsup><mi>Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>→</mo><msubsup><mi>Ξ</mi><mi>c</mi><mo>+</mo></msubsup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup></math> is observed for the first time, with a statistical significance of <math><mn>5.9</mn><mi>σ</mi></math>, confirming a recent observation of the baryon in the <math><msubsup><mi>Λ</mi><mi>c</mi><mo>+</mo></msubsup><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup></math> final state. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of <math><mn>1.7</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>, collected by the LHCb experiment in <math><mi>p</mi><mi>p</mi></math> collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The <math><msubsup><mi>Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup></math> mass is measured to be <math><mrow><mn>3620.6</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>1.5</mn><mrow><mo>(</mo><mrow><mi>stat</mi></mrow><mo>)</mo></mrow><mo>±</mo><mn>0.4</mn><mrow><mo>(</mo><mrow><mi>syst</mi></mrow><mo>)</mo></mrow><mo>±</mo><mn>0.3</mn><mo>(</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>)</mo><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math> and is consistent with the previous result. The ratio of branching fractions between the decay modes is measured to be <math><mrow><mo>[</mo><mi>B</mi><mo>(</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>→</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo>)</mo><mo>×</mo><mi>B</mi><mo>(</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>→</mo><mi>p</mi><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo>)</mo><mo>]</mo><mo>/</mo><mo>[</mo><mi>B</mi><mo>(</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>→</mo><mspace></mspace><msubsup><mrow><mi>Λ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo>)</mo><mo>×</mo><mi>B</mi><mo>(</mo><msubsup><mrow><mi>Λ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo>→</mo><mi>p</mi><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo>)</mo><mo>]</mo><mo>=</mo><mrow><mn>0.035</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.009</mn><mrow><mo>(</mo><mrow><mi>stat</mi></mrow><mo>)</mo></mrow><mo>±</mo><mn>0.003</mn><mrow><mo>(</mo><mrow><mi>syst</mi></mrow><mo>)</mo></mrow></mrow></mrow></math>.
