A measurement of the Higgs boson Yukawa coupling to the top quark is presented using proton-proton collision data at <math><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math>, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math><mn>137</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>, recorded with the CMS detector. The coupling strength with respect to the standard model value, <math><msub><mi>Y</mi><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></msub></math>, is determined from kinematic distributions in <math><mrow><mi>t</mi><mover><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow></math> final states containing <math><mrow><mi>e</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>e</mi></mrow></math>, <math><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow></math>, or <math><mrow><mi>e</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow></math> pairs. Variations of the Yukawa coupling strength lead to modified distributions for <math><mrow><mi>t</mi><mover><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow></math> production. In particular, the distributions of the mass of the <math><mrow><mi>t</mi><mover><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow></math> system and the rapidity difference of the top quark and antiquark are sensitive to the value of <math><msub><mi>Y</mi><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></msub></math>. The measurement yields a best fit value of <math><mrow><msubsup><mrow><msub><mrow><mi>Y</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></msub><mo>=</mo><mn>1.16</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>0.35</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>0.24</mn></mrow></msubsup></mrow></math>, bounding <math><msub><mi>Y</mi><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></msub><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>1.54</mn></math> at a 95% confidence level.
