Leading quantum effects in perturbative quantum gravity are captured by functional determinants of kinetic operators. We study such 1-loop determinants in three-dimensional Euclidean (anti-) de Sitter gravity evaluated using two seemingly disparate tools, the Selberg zeta function and the Wilson spool. For the Euclidean BTZ black hole, we demonstrate the Wilson spool for massive bosons of arbitrary spin directly equates to a representation-theoretic version of the Selberg zeta function. In the case of Euclidean de Sitter, we show a new trace formula associated with the Fredholm determinant for the scalar Laplacian on the three-sphere reproduces the Wilson spool. Generalizing the trace formula, we comment on how to extend this Wilson spool construction to lens space quotients and higher-dimensional spheres.

Untangling Selberg from the Wilson spool: 1-loop determinants and trace formulae in (A)dS

We show that baryogenesis can arise from the cosmological evolution of a scalar field that governs CP-violating parameters, such as the Yukawa couplings and the theta terms of the Standard Model. During the big bang, this scalar may reach a CP-violating minimum, where its mass can be comparable to the inflationary Hubble scale. Such dynamics can emerge in theories featuring either a spontaneously broken local U(1) symmetry or modular invariance. The latter arises naturally as the effective field theory capturing the geometric origin of CP violation in toroidal string compactifications. Modular baryogenesis is compatible with the modular approach to resolving the strong CP problem.

Baryogenesis from cosmological CP breaking

In the limit of infinite radius de Sitter space becomes locally flat and the static patch tends to Rindler space. A holographic description of the static patch must result in a holographic description of some flat space theory, expressed in Rindler coordinates. Given such a holographic theory how does one decode the hologram and determine the bulk flat space theory, its particle spectrum, forces, and bulk quantum fields? In this paper we will answer this question for a particular case: DSSYK at infinite temperature and show that the bulk theory is a strongly coupled version of the ’t Hooft model, i.e., (1+1)-dimensional QCD, with a single quark flavor. It may also be thought of as an open string theory with mesons lying on a single Regge trajectory.

DSSYK at infinite temperature: the flat-space limit and the ’t Hooft model

We show that classical, non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories coupled to spin-1/2 and spin-0 elementary matter fields, in (3 + 1)-dimensional Minkowski space-time, possess exact structures that resemble integrability, with an infinite number of conserved charges in involution. Such structures live in the space of non-abelian electric and magnetic charges, and are based on flat connections in generalized loop spaces, presenting an $\textit{R}$-matrix, and Sklyanin relation. We present two novel symmetries of Yang-Mills theories. The first one corresponds to global transformations generated by the infinity of those conserved charges under the Poisson brackets. The gauge and matter fields, as well as Wilson lines and fluxes, have interesting transformation laws under such a global symmetry. The second one corresponds to symmetries of the integral Yang-Mills equations, which lead to the conserved charges. They generate an infinite-dimensional group, where the elements are holonomies of connections on the loop space of functions from the circle $\textit{S}$ to the space-time. Our approach certainly applies to the Standard Model of the Fundamental Interactions. The conserved charges are gauge invariant, and so, in the case of QCD, they are color singlets and perhaps are not confined. Therefore, the hadrons may carry such charges. Our results open up the way for the construction of non-perturbative methods for Yang-Mills theories.

The hidden symmetries of Yang-Mills theory in (3 + 1)-dimensions

We develop further previous work on de Sitter extremal surfaces and time entanglement structures in quantum mechanics. In the first part, we first discuss explicit quotient geometries. Then we construct smooth bulk geometries with replica boundary conditions at the future boundary and evaluate boundary Renyi entropies in $\textit{dS}$/$\textit{CFT}$. The bulk calculation pertains to the semiclassical de Sitter Wavefunction and thus evaluates pseudo-Renyi entropies. In 3-dimensions, the geometry in quotient variables is Schwarzschild de Sitter. The 4-dim $\textit{dS}$ geometry involves hyperbolic foliations and is a complex geometry satisfying a regularity criterion that amounts to requiring a smooth Euclidean continuation. Overall this puts on a firmer footing previous Lewkowycz-Maldacena replica arguments based on analytic continuation for the extremal surface areas via appropriate cosmic branes.

$\textit{dS}$ extremal surfaces, replicas, boundary Renyi entropies in $\textit{dS}$/$\textit{CFT}$ and time entanglement

New heavy resonances with sizeable couplings to top quarks can be probed through searches for beyond-the-Standard-Model effects in four-top production at the LHC. In this work, we present the first next-to-leading-order QCD predictions for the full on-shell and off-shell production of four-top events via new electroweak singlet states, along with dedicated analysis strategies based on the reconstruction and tagging of all final-state top quarks. We develop a detector-level simulation incorporating recent advances in top-tagging and boosted object reconstruction. Moreover, we demonstrate that searches at LHC Run 3 and high-luminosity phase in the zero-lepton, one-lepton and same-sign di-lepton channels can improve the sensitivity to the new physics cross sections by up to two orders of magnitude. In particular, colour-octet resonances with masses up to 2–2.5 TeV and colour-singlet states with masses up to 1–1.5 TeV are within reach for coupling values in the 0.1–1 range.

Searching for top-philic heavy resonances in boosted four-top final states

In this work, we introduce a new jet shape observable, the one-point energy correlator (EC), designed to characterize the intra-jet energy flow distribution by measuring energy deposition at a specific angle relative to the jet axis. Building upon the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) physics, we aim for the EC to provide novel insights into jet substructure and offer a new approach to study TMD physics, particularly gluon transverse momentum dependent fragmentation functions (TMDFFs) which are notoriously difficult to extract. We obtain the factorization of the EC jet function within Soft-Collinear Effective Theory and leverage the framework of semi-inclusive TMD fragmenting jet functions. We resum large global logarithms and non-global logarithms (NGLs) and show that the normalized EC jet function exhibits significantly reduced dependence on the factorization scale and is primarily sensitive to the jet scale. Finally, after incorporating non-perturbative effects, we present numerical calculations up to NNLL accuracy for global logarithms and LL accuracy for NGLs, and we compare these predictions with PYTHIA 8 simulations.

One-point energy correlator inside jets

We present a Majorana scotogenic-like loop framework in which neutrino mass generation and dark matter stability are intrinsically connected to the breaking of the discrete flavor symmetry $\textit{A}$ . This breaking leads to the emergence of the scoto-seesaw mechanism and a $\textit{Z}$ symmetry. This naturally explains the solar and atmospheric mass-squared differences, $$ \Delta {m}_{\textrm{sol}}^2 $$ and $$ \Delta {m}_{\textrm{atm}}^2 $$ , while simultaneously ensuring dark matter stability. Our model accommodates normal ordering of neutrino masses, with a generalized $\textit{μ}$-$\textit{τ}$ reflection symmetry shaping the structure of leptonic mixing and a lower limit on the lightest neutrino mass. Moreover, the model provides predictions for the octant of $\textit{θ}$ and a strong correlation between $$ \Delta {m}_{\textrm{sol}}^2 $$ and $$ \Delta {m}_{\textrm{atm}}^2 $$ . This correlation puts a lower bound on the fermionic DM mass. In contrast, scalar dark matter remains viable over a broad mass spectrum. A notable feature is that the low mass regime (~ 15 GeV onwards) survives owing to the presence of efficient co-annihilation channels, which are typically absent in the Majorana scotogenic scenario. Additionally, the model aligns with current and future limits from lepton flavor violation experiments.

Flavor imprints on novel low mass dark matter

We derive a generalized Euler equation, $\textit{ϵ}$ + $\textit{p}$ = $\textit{sT}$ + $\textit{μq}$ + $$ y\frac{\partial p}{\partial y} $$ , using the effective field theory formulation of perfect fluids. This generalization was achieved by introducing a new variable $\textit{y}$ into the effective action, which encodes a geometrical scale of the spacetime where the fluid is on. Notably, the generalized Euler equation is independent of the AdS/CFT correspondence. However, when applied to a holographic perfect fluid, this equation naturally recovers the Smarr formula for AdS black holes, thus situating the physical interpretation of the Smarr formula within the framework of well-established physics. Finally, our findings raise important questions regarding the validity of treating the cosmological constant Λ as a thermodynamic variable, as proposed in certain frameworks within the literature.

Generalized Euler equation from effective action: implications for the smarr formula in AdS black holes

We present partonic contributions to the inclusive gluon-fusion Higgs boson and Drell-Yan production cross sections at Hadron colliders at next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N LO). Specifically, we compute contributions due to the interference of one-loop amplitudes with two-loop amplitudes with three QCD partons and the Higgs boson or a virtual photon. Our result is in the form of a Laurent expansion in the dimensional regulator $\textit{ϵ}$, the coefficients of which are analytic functions in the ratio of the Higgs boson or virtual photon mass to the partonic center-of-mass energy. Furthermore, we introduce and deploy a new package implemented in Mathematica, Cifar (“Color Invariant Feynman Amplitude Reducer”), to express color factors in terms of general Casimir invariants of simple compact Lie algebras.
