In holographic duality, the total energy of the dual field theory is obtained from the holographic renormalization, which depends not only on the bulk geometry but also on the choice of quantization schemes. We point out that the validity of several widely studied holographic inequalities — including the AdS Penrose inequality, the late-time bound on entanglement entropy growth, and the growth-rate limits of CV and CA complexities — depends on the choice of quantization schemes. Motivated by this issue, we introduce a modified total energy, which is still computed via holographic renormalization but the final value is independent of the choice of quantization schemes. We verify that this modified energy removes the apparent violations of these bounds that arise from quantization-scheme dependence in the model of massive scalar field. Our results suggest that our modified total energy provides a more robust notion of energy when we talk about above inequalities in holographic settings.

Quantization-scheme-independent energy and its implications for holographic bounds

We propose a scheme by which a wavelet bulk description of a quantum field theory (QFT) can be equipped with a metric based on local multiscale correlation functions. The metric is obtained from the infinitesimal behaviour of the Petz-Rényi mutual information, which is computed from correlations that have been transformed with the continuous wavelet transform. The method presented is applicable to any quadratic QFT that need not be a conformal field theory (CFT). For thermal free scalar and Dirac field theories the resulting metric is that of (asymmetrically) warped Euclidean anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. For massless CFTs in the ground state, the geometry reduces to Euclidean AdS space reminiscent of the usual holographic correspondence. Certain parameters of the resulting geometry can be tuned by changing the shape of the wavelet function while maintaining the same type of geometry.

Emergent metrics from wavelet-transformed quantum field theory

We derive integrable deformations of the 2d Breitenlohner–Maison (BM) sigma model that describes the stationary, axisymmetric sector of 4d general relativity, as well as higher-rank generalisations thereof, using the framework of 4d Chern–Simons theory. In particular, we consider deformations of the boundary conditions and action of the 4d Cole–Weck model, which lead to deformations of the BM model associated with solutions to the homogeneous and inhomogeneous classical Yang–Baxter equations respectively.

Integrable deformations of the Breitenlohner–Maison model from 4d Chern–Simons theory

We give a physical interpretation for the analytic continuation of the partition function of superconformal SU(2) 𝒩 = 2 gauge theory on the four-sphere to all values of the Yang-Mills coupling. We show that a well-motivated 2d construction associates two-dimensional unstable instantons to the 4d complex saddles which appear as singularities in the integrand of the supersymmetric localization expression. The construction is based on the chiral algebra subsector, and aligns with the alternative Higgs branch localization.

The resurgence of errors in the localization of 𝒩 = 2 superconformal Yang-Mills

Despite being a simple and well-motivated thermal relic scenario, coannihilation dark matter (DM) has remained largely unexplored experimentally due to the difficulty of probing its nearly degenerate mass spectrum. Recent LHC searches, however, have significantly improved the sensitivity to such compressed spectra, motivating a reassessment of the viable parameter space. We revisit the bino-slepton coannihilation scenario in supersymmetric (SUSY) models, incorporating the latest experimental results. We first focus on the minimal scenario, in which only the bino-like neutralino and left- or right-handed sleptons are light (𝒪(100) GeV), with all other SUSY particles decoupled. We find that the dark matter mass is constrained to be in the range of about 170–420 GeV (130–430 GeV) for left-handed (right-handed) slepton coannihilation, with lower bounds set by recent LHC searches. We then investigate scenarios with light higgsino, where direct detection experiments impose strong constraints on the higgsino mass. We also discuss the implications of these constraints for the muon $\textit{g}$ − 2 in the so-called BHR (bino–higgsino–right-handed slepton), BHL (bino–higgsino–left-handed slepton), and BLR (bino–left- and right-handed slepton) scenarios with coannihilation DM, and find that the combined LHC and LZ limits constrain the SUSY contribution to $$ \left|\Delta {a}_{\mu}^{\mathrm{SUSY}}\right|\lesssim 1.2\times {10}^{-9} $$ .

Revisiting bino-slepton coannihilation dark matter in light of recent experimental results

We investigate CP violation in the process $\textit{H}$ → $\textit{W}$ $\textit{Z}$ within the framework of the two-Higgs-Doublet model (2HDM). Amplitudes are expressed transparently in terms of physical couplings. Our analysis qualitatively confirms recent results by Kanemura and Mura, for the interference between one-loop bosonic and fermionic amplitudes. Furthermore, we identify additional sources of CP violation arising from internal interference among the bosonic and also among the fermionic loop amplitudes. In the alignment limit, the asymmetry would vanish in the absence of fermionic loop contributions when the sum of the masses of the additional neutral scalars is higher than the mass of the $\textit{Z}$. Our results allow for generic Yukawa couplings, and cover both explicit and spontaneous CP violation. For inclusive $\textit{W}$ and $\textit{Z}$ decays, the CP violation will only manifest itself as a charge asymmetry.

CP violation in $\textit{H}$ $\textit{±}$ $\textit{→ W}$ $\textit{±}$ $\textit{Z}$: a physical approach for the 2HDM

We consider a de Sitter observer in his rest frame at late times who observes a particle slightly displaced from unstable equilibrium. Initially, the observer notices an axisymmetric and parity-violating deformation along the trajectory of the displaced particle of his cosmological horizon. On a time scale of order $\textit{ℓ}$, the de Sitter radius, the particle is nearly absorbed by the cosmological horizon and has been accelerated to an ultra-relativistic speed and thus is well approximated as a shock wave. In the shock wave limit, the observer sees an axisymmetric deformation of his horizon with parity restored, which we interpret as arising due to a particle from the complementary static patch. We comment on the holographic implications of this result and note that there is no need to extend the holographic screen of de Sitter spacetime beyond the empty static patch to account for this signal.

Seeing double: shock waves and the de Sitter horizon

We investigate quantum field theory in Rindler space with a UV cutoff by considering a free scalar field on a lattice in Rindler coordinates. We find that the Minkowski vacuum is not exactly thermal with respect to the local lattice Rindler Hamiltonian. Nevertheless, for observables sufficiently far from the horizon, the Wightman function and the Unruh–DeWitt detector response reproduce the expected thermal behavior in the continuum limit. Thus, the Unruh effect survives operationally, even though exact thermality is lost at the state level. We also show that the Rindler vacuum energy density reproduces the standard continuum behavior away from the horizon, while the UV singularity at the horizon is replaced by a stretched-horizon contribution. Furthermore, the retarded Green function exhibits a component reflected at the stretched horizon, implying that an ingoing wave packet is reflected at a proper distance of order the cutoff. This provides an effective brick-wall picture in the UV-regulated theory. Our analysis suggests that, once a cutoff is introduced, the global Minkowski description and the wedge description based on a local Rindler Hamiltonian are no longer equivalent at the operator level.

Rindler physics with a UV cutoff on the lattice

Motivated by a recent conjecture of Misumi and Yumoto relating the number of zero modes of lattice Dirac operators to the sum of the Betti numbers of the underlying spacetime manifold, we study formal naive Dirac operators on a class of graphs admitting such in terms of their zero modes. Our main result is that for graphs on which translations commute, the conjecture of Misumi and Yumoto can be shown and indeed can be strengthened to obtain bounds on the individual Betti numbers rather than merely on their sum. Interpretations of the zero modes in terms of graph quotients and of the representation theory of abelian groups are given, and connections with a homology theory for such graphs are highlighted.

Formal naive Dirac operators and graph topology

We study a recently discovered carrollian bosonic string, described classically by a sigma model where both the worldsheet and the target spacetime are carrollian. After fixing the carrollian analogue of the conformal gauge, we determine the Lie algebra of residual gauge symmetries and show it is isomorphic to the three-dimensional extended BMS algebra. We quantise the sigma model à la BRST and determine the spectrum of the corresponding string theory by computing the BRST cohomology. In contrast with the usual bosonic string, the spectrum of the carrollian string is finite-dimensional. The cohomology displays Poincaré duality and can be interpreted, for a given momentum, as inducing representations for unitary irreducible representations of the 26-dimensional Carroll group. Furthermore we interpret (most of) the cohomology as deformations of the spacetime carrollian structure augmented by the Kalb-Ramond field to which the carrollian string couples.
