The proposed magnetized Iron CALorimeter detector (ICAL) to be built in the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) laboratory aims to study atmospheric neutrinos and its properties such as precision measurements of oscillation parameters and the neutrino mass hierarchy. High energy charged current (CC) interactions of atmospheric neutrinos with the rock surrounding the detector produce so-called “rock muons” along with hadrons. While the hadron component of these events are absorbed in the rock itself, the rock muons traverse the rock and are detected in the detector. These rock muon events can be distinguished from cosmic muons only in the upward direction and can provide an independent measurement of the oscillation parameters. A simulation study of these events at the ICAL detector shows that, although reduced in significance compared to muons produced in direct CC neutrino interactions with the detector, these events are indeed sensitive to the oscillation parameters, achieving a possible  $$1\sigma $$  <math> <mrow> <mn>1</mn> <mi>σ</mi> </mrow> </math>   precision of 10% and 27% in determining  $$\varDelta m_{32}^2$$  <math> <mrow> <mi>Δ</mi> <msubsup> <mi>m</mi> <mrow> <mn>32</mn> </mrow> <mn>2</mn> </msubsup> </mrow> </math>   and  $$\sin ^2\theta _{23}$$  <math> <mrow> <msup> <mo>sin</mo> <mn>2</mn> </msup> <msub> <mi>θ</mi> <mn>23</mn> </msub> </mrow> </math>  , respectively. Hence a combination of the standard atmospheric neutrino analysis which is the main goal of ICAL, with these rock muon events, will improve the precision reach of ICAL for these parameters.

Simulation analysis with rock muons from atmospheric neutrino interactions in the ICAL detector at the India-based Neutrino Observatory

Abstract We construct a complete heterotic string field theory that includes both the Neveu–Schwarz and Ramond sectors. We give a construction of general string products, which realizes a cyclic  structure and thus provides with a gauge-invariant action in the homotopy algebraic formulation. Through a map of the string fields, we also give the Wess–Zumino–Witten-like action in the large Hilbert space, and verify its gauge invariance independently.

Heterotic string field theory with cyclic Structure Talk at SFT2018 workshop held at HRI Allahabad India, February 11–15, 2018

In this work, we study charged current quasi-elastic scattering (QES) of off nucleon and nucleus using a formalism based on the Llewellyn Smith (LS) model. Parameterizations by Galster et al. are used for electric and magnetic Sachʼs form factors of the nucleons. We use the Fermi gas model along with the Pauli suppression condition to take into account the nuclear effects in the anti-neutrino–nucleus QES. We calculate and charged current quasi-elastic scattering differential and total cross sections for different values of axial mass MA, and compare the results with data from the GGM, SKAT, BNL, NOMAD, MINERνA and MiniBooNE experiments. The present theoretical approach gives a good description of differential cross section data. The calculations with axial mass and 1.05 GeV are compatible with data from most of the experiments.

Charged current quasi-elastic scattering of off 12CSupported by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, India

A Gaussian wave function is used for detailed study of the mass spectra of the B and BS mesons using a Cornell potential incorporated with a 𝒪(1/m) correction in the potential energy term and expansion of the kinetic energy term up to 𝒪(p10) for relativistic correction of the Hamiltonian. The predicted excited states for the B and Bs mesons are in very good agreement with results obtained by experiment. We assign B2(5747) and Bs2(5840) as the 13P2 state, B1(5721) and Bs1(5830) as the 1P1 state, B0(5732) as the 13P0 state, Bs1(5850) as the state and B(5970) as the 23S1 state. We investigate the Regge trajectories in the (J,M2) and (nr,M2) planes with their corresponding parameters. The branching ratios for leptonic and radiative-leptonic decays are estimated for the B and BS mesons. Our results are in good agreement with experimental observations as well as outcomes of other theoretical models.

In this work, we investigate the spectroscopy and decay rates of charmonia within the framework of the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation by employing an approximate inter quark-antiquark potential. The spin hyperfine, spin-orbit and tensor components of the one gluon exchange interaction are employed to compute the spectroscopy of the excited S states and a few low-lying P and D waves. The resultant wave functions at zero inter-quark separation as well as some finite separations are employed to predict the di-gamma, di-leptonic and di-gluon decay rates of charmonia states using the conventional Van Royen-Weisskopf formula. The di-gamma and di-leptonic decay widths are also computed by incorporating the relativistic corrections of order v4 within the NRQCD formalism. We have observed that the NRQCD predictions with their matrix elements computed at finite radial separation yield results which are found to be in better agreement with experimental values for both di-gamma and di-leptonic decays. The same scenario is seen in the case when di-gamma and di-leptonic decay widths are computed with the Van Royen-Weisskopf formula. It is also observed that the di-gluon decay width with the inclusion of binding energy effects are in better agreement with the experimental data available for 1S-2S and 1P. The di-gluon decay width of 3S and 2P waves waves are also predicted. Thus, the present study of decay rates clearly indicates the importance of binding energy effects.

The electromagnetic radiative transition widths for heavy quarkonia, as well as digamma and digluon decay widths, are computed in the framework of the extended harmonic confinement model (ERHM) and Coulomb plus power potential (CPPν) with varying potential index ν. The outcome is compared with the values obtained from other theoretical models and experimental results. While the mass spectra, digamma and digluon widths from ERHM as well as CPPν=1 are in good agreement with experimental data, the electromagnetic transition widths span over a wide range for the potential models considered here making it difficult to prefer a particular model over the others because of the lack of experimental data for most transition widths.

The India-based Neutrino Observatory will host a 50 kt magnetized iron calorimeter (ICAL) detector that will be able to detect muon tracks and hadron showers produced by charged-current muon neutrino interactions in the detector. The ICAL experiment will be able to determine the precision of atmospheric neutrino mixing parameters and neutrino mass hierarchy using atmospheric muon neutrinos through the earth matter effect. In this paper, we report on the sensitivity for the atmospheric neutrino mixing parameters ( sin2Î¸23 and |Îm322| ) and octant sensitivity for the ICAL detector using the reconstructed neutrino energy and muon direction as observables. We apply realistic resolutions and efficiencies obtained by the ICAL collaboration with a GEANT4-based simulation to reconstruct neutrino energy and muon direction. Our study shows that using neutrino energy and muon direction as observables for a Ï2 analysis, the ICAL detector can measure sin2Î¸23 and |Îm322| with 13Â % and 4Â % uncertainties at 1 Ï confidence level and can rule out the wrong octant of Î¸23 with 2 Ï confidence level for 10Â years of exposure.
