We perform a model-independent study of new physics effects in the Higgs decay <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">ϒ</mi><mi>γ</mi></math>, focusing on scenarios that spoil the accidental cancellation between the direct and indirect amplitudes. After imposing all existing constraints from Higgs production and decay measurements, we find that a wrong-sign <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mi>b</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>b</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> coupling is the only viable scenario capable of enhancing the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">ϒ</mi><mi>γ</mi></math> decay width by nearly 2 orders of magnitude. Therefore, an observation of a significantly enhanced <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">ϒ</mi><mi>γ</mi></math> rate at the LHC or future colliders would provide unambiguous evidence for a wrong-sign <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mi>b</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>b</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> coupling, directly pointing to the presence of an extended Higgs sector.

<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">ϒ</mi><mi>γ</mi></math> decay: Smoking gun signature of a wrong-sign <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>h</mi><mi>b</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>b</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> coupling

The energy-energy correlator (EEC) inside jets is a sensitive observable for studying jet modification in the quark-gluon plasma. However, its interpretation in heavy-ion collisions remains challenging, requiring a consistent understanding of jet evolution across multiple dynamical scales together with a proper treatment of the background subtraction. In this work, we employ an updated CoLBT-hydro framework in which a medium scale <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><msub><mi>Q</mi><mi>M</mi></msub><mo>=</mo><mn>2.0</mn></mrow></math> GeV is introduced to separate the vacuum and in-medium stages of the parton shower, enabling a more self-consistent treatment of jet evolution. Using a theoretical background subtraction within the model, the resulting simulation reproduces the recent CMS measurement of the in-jet EEC and, through a decomposition of the different contributions, highlights the impact of medium modification on the observable. To further validate the experimental procedure, we also implement the CMS mixed-event background-subtraction method directly in the simulation and find that the results are consistent with those obtained with the theoretical background subtraction. Using <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><msub><mi>p</mi><mi>T</mi></msub></math>-ranked jets in each event, we further investigate the dependence of medium modification on the in-medium path length, reflected in the different EECs of leading and subleading jets. Finally, we explore the dependence of the leading-jet EEC on the dijet rapidity gap as a signal of the jet-induced diffusion wake.

Energy-energy correlators inside single inclusive jets in heavy-ion collisions with the CoLBT-hydro model

We investigate the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>S</mi></math>-wave scatterings of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> systems within a unified chiral effective field theory framework up to next-to-leading order. The contact low-energy coupling constants are determined by fitting to the lattice QCD results for the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math> scattering phase shift at an unphysical pion mass. After extrapolating to the physical pion mass, we find a repulsive interaction in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>I</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mi>J</mi><mi>P</mi></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>0</mn><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mtext> </mtext><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math> channel, consistent with the lattice QCD simulation. On the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> side, using the fitted contact low-energy constants, we predict the phase shifts and potentials for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> scattering in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>I</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mi>J</mi><mrow><mi>P</mi><mi>C</mi></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>0</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>1</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> channels. Attractive interactions are found in both channels, each allowing for the formation of bound states. In particular, the attraction in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>1</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mtext> </mtext><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> channel is stronger. In addition, our analysis reveals that the spin-spin term caused by the two-pion exchange contributes significantly to the interactions, leading to a distinct mass splitting between the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>0</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0</mn><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mn>1</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mtext> </mtext><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> channels.

Scattering of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><msub><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>c</mi></msub></math> in chiral effective field theory

In higher-dimensional Einstein–anti–de Sitter (AdS) gravity, it is well known that planar and static anti–de Sitter black holes can be endowed with multiple rotation parameters via a large-gauge transformation. However, a similar prescription fails when multiple Newman–Unti–Tamburino (NUT) parameters are added, thereby obstructing the study of holographic properties with more than one NUT charge. To pave the way toward this direction, we construct explicit planar AdS spacetimes having multiple NUT parameters in two simple ways that allow one to circumvent the strong restrictions imposed by the vacuum field equations. First, motivated by momentum relaxation holographic models, we construct multi-NUT spaces in AdS with flat horizons by adding free scalar fields possessing an axionic profile. In our second approach, we build similar configurations in Einstein gravity with quadratic-curvature corrections. We end by presenting planar versions of the Kaluza-Klein monopole in AdS with different magnetic charges. As a byproduct, our strategy yields a simple way to generalize the Gross-Perry-Sorkin monopole to include the cosmological constant.

Planar AdS multi-NUT spacetimes and Kaluza-Klein multimonopoles

One of the promising dark matter (DM) candidates is a keV-scale sterile neutrino. In the early Universe, the observed relic of the sterile neutrino DM is generated via the Dodelson-Widrow mechanism. However, this production scenario is severely constrained by various astrophysical observations. Many nonstandard interactions between active (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ν</mi><mi>a</mi></msub></math>) and sterile (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ν</mi><mi>s</mi></msub></math>) neutrinos have been proposed to evade these astrophysical bounds. Here, we study sterile neutrinos in the context of a mass-varying scenario by coupling both active and sterile neutrinos to a scalar field. This novel mechanism opens up a new parameter space that generates the observed DM relic and addresses the Hubble tension. We find that the resulting parameter space can be fully probed by future x-ray missions.

Addressing the Hubble tension with sterile neutrino dark matter

We study collisions of domain walls in SU(<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">N</mi></math>) gauge theories using the Polyakov-loop effective potential models. We find that string junctions play a crucial role in the dynamics of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mi>N</mi></msub></math> domain walls. In SU(3) gauge theory, the merger of two nonplanar <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mn>3</mn></msub></math> domain walls into a single wall proceeds via the creation of a vortex-antivortex pair in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>2</mn><mo>+</mo><mn>1</mn></math> dimensions. In SU(4) gauge theory, low-energy collisions of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mn>4</mn></msub></math> walls result in the formation of a single domain wall without the creation of vortices. At higher collision energies, two <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mn>4</mn></msub></math> domain walls can either bounce back or scatter into another pair of domain walls through the formation of vortices. The creation of vortex-antivortex pairs generalizes to the creation of string loops in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>3</mn><mo>+</mo><mn>1</mn></math> dimensions for both gauge theories. These results demonstrate a direct dynamical role for topological strings in the evolution of center-domain-wall networks and reveal a new aspect of defect dynamics in non-Abelian gauge theories.

Dynamics of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mi>N</mi></msub></math> domain walls in SU(<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">N</mi></mrow></math>) gauge theories

In this manuscript we present the first results from Eos, a four tonne optical detector located at the University of California, Berkeley. The primary goal of Eos is to demonstrate the performance capabilities of scintillation-based, “hybrid” detector technology for future neutrino detectors. The data presented were collected while both the inner target vessel and the outer buffer vessel were filled with water. The water target acts as a well-understood medium that produces only Cherenkov light, which can be used to calibrate and develop the detector model and reconstruction algorithms prior to the deployment of scintillating material. Using deployed optical and radioactive calibration sources, a series of detailed detector calibrations are performed. These enable a suite of tests for various reconstruction algorithms. Simulations that use calibrated models are compared with the data across a variety of different types of calibration sources, source positions, and rotations.

Performance of the Eos detector with water

We investigate the prospects for observing lepton number violation (LNV) by two units, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo stretchy="false">|</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi><mi>L</mi><mo stretchy="false">|</mo><mo>=</mo><mn>2</mn></math>, at the LHC within the leptoquark variant of the Zee Model, where Majorana neutrino masses arise radiatively at one loop. The model features an <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>S</mi><mi>U</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2</mn><msub><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mi>L</mi></msub></math> doublet and singlet leptoquarks, whose interactions produce a distinctive same-sign dilepton plus jets signature, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>p</mi><mi>p</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mo>ℓ</mo><mo>±</mo></msup><msup><msup><mo>ℓ</mo><mo>′</mo></msup><mo>±</mo></msup><mo>+</mo><mtext>jets</mtext></math>. Taking into account current experimental constraints, we identify the dominant production channels for this LNV signal and perform a detailed collider analysis. We find that the HL-LHC can probe leptoquark masses up to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>m</mi><mrow><mi>LQ</mi></mrow></msub><mo>∼</mo><mn>1.5</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> with this process. Observation of this signal would provide a direct test of LNV and would unambiguously establish the Majorana nature of neutrinos.

Lepton number violation at the LHC in radiative neutrino mass models with leptoquarks

This work presents single-differential electron-neutrino charged-current cross sections on argon measured using the MicroBooNE detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The analysis uses data recorded when the Neutrinos at the Main Injector beam was operating in both neutrino and antineutrino modes, with exposures of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>2</mn><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mn>20</mn></msup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>5</mn><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mn>20</mn></msup></math> protons on target, respectively. A selection algorithm targeting electron-neutrino charged-current interactions with at least one proton, one electron, and no pions in the final topology is used to measure differential cross sections as a function of outgoing electron energy, total visible energy, and the cosine of the opening angle between the electron and the most energetic proton. The interaction rate as a function of proton multiplicity is also reported. The total cross section is measured as <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mo stretchy="false">[</mo><mrow><mn>4.1</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.3</mn><mtext> </mtext><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>stat</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>±</mo><mn>1.1</mn><mtext> </mtext><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>syst</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow><mo stretchy="false">]</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mrow><mn>10</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>39</mn></mrow></msup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mrow><mi>cm</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup><mo>/</mo><mtext>nucleon</mtext></mrow></math>. The unfolded cross-section measurements are compared to predictions from neutrino event generators commonly employed in the field. Good agreement is seen across all variables within uncertainties.
