Based on the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2712.4</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>14.4</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mrow><mn>10</mn></mrow><mrow><mn>6</mn></mrow></msup><mtext> </mtext><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3686</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow></math> events collected with the BESIII detector, we present a high-precision study of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> mass spectrum in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3686</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> decays. A clear resonancelike structure is observed near the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> mass threshold for the first time. A fit with a Breit-Wigner function yields a mass of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>285.6</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>2.5</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math> and a width of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>16.3</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.9</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi></math> with a statistical significance exceeding <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>10</mn><mi>σ</mi></mrow></math>. To interpret the data, we incorporate final-state interactions (FSI) within two theoretical frameworks: chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and QCD multipole expansion (QCDME). ChPT describes the spectrum above <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.3</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>GeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mi>c</mi><mn>2</mn></msup></math> but fails to reproduce the threshold enhancement. In contrast, the QCDME model—assuming the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3686</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> is an admixture of S- and D-wave charmonium—reproduces the data well. The pronounced dip near <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.3</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>GeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mi>c</mi><mn>2</mn></msup></math> offers new insight into the interplay between chiral dynamics and low-energy QCD.

Observation of a Threshold Enhancement in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> Spectrum in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3686</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow></math> Decays

We study a five-leg scattering amplitude on the special Coulomb branch of planar <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi mathvariant="script">N</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>4</mn></mrow></math> super Yang-Mills theory. We reach this point of the moduli space of scalar vacuum expectation values by considering six-dimensional <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">N</mi><mo>=</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1</mn><mo>,</mo><mn>1</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> super Yang-Mills theory and reducing it down to four space-time dimensions with extradimensional momenta being nonvanishing. This branch is characterized by massive external W-bosons and massless internal gluons propagating in loops. We analyze the five W-boson amplitude in the kinematics when their masses are much smaller than all Mandelstam-like invariants. This is what we dub the near mass-shell limit. We perform calculations to two-loop order in ’t Hooft coupling, making use of recent advances in analytic calculations of required Feynman integrals. Our findings confirm exponentiation of infrared logarithms and enable us to conjecture a concise all-order expression for the amplitude in question. We further analyze its duality to the square root of a five-point correlation function of infinitely heavy half-BPS (Bogomol’nyi–Prasad–Sommerfield) operators, known as the decagon. By considering the near-null limit for inter-operators distances, we verify that the two objects coincide. This observation corroborates the novel Coulomb amplitudes/heavy correlator duality previously observed for four W-boson amplitudes and Sudakov form factors.

Five W-boson amplitude is equal to near-null decagon

In this work, we perform a comprehensive investigation of the production of high-spin <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ω</mi><mi>J</mi></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ρ</mi><mi>J</mi></msub></math> mesons (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>2</mn></math>, 3, 4, 5) in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mi>p</mi></math> reactions using an effective Lagrangian approach. By constructing the relevant <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>t</mi></math>-channel processes and calibrating the model with a single adjustable parameter fitted to existing data, we successfully reproduce the measured total and differential cross sections for the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>3</mn></math> states <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ω</mi><mn>3</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1670</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ρ</mi><mn>3</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1690</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>. Within the same framework, we predict the production cross sections for their lower- and higher-spin partners; <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ω</mi><mn>2</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1975</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ρ</mi><mn>2</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1940</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ω</mi><mn>4</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2250</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ρ</mi><mn>4</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2230</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ω</mi><mn>5</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2350</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>, and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>ρ</mi><mn>5</mn></msub><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2350</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>. Our results show that these states exhibit measurable cross sections with characteristically forward-peaked angular distributions, underscoring their strong potential for observation in future <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>π</mi><mi>p</mi></math> meson-beam experiments.

Based on a sample of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>10087</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>44</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mn>6</mn></msup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><msup><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Σ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mn>0</mn></msup><mi>η</mi><mo>+</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo></math> is performed for the first time. The dominant contributions are found to be excited <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi></math> states with <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>J</mi><mi>P</mi></msup><mo>=</mo><mn>1</mn><mo>/</mo><msup><mn>2</mn><mo>−</mo></msup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>J</mi><mi>P</mi></msup><mo>=</mo><mn>1</mn><mo>/</mo><msup><mn>2</mn><mo>+</mo></msup></math> in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>η</mi><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi></math> mass spectra. Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi><msup><mover accent="true"><mi mathvariant="normal">Σ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mn>0</mn></msup><mi>η</mi><mo>+</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo></math>

We achieve for the first time NNLO <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>QCD</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>NLO</mi></mrow></math> EW accuracy for doubly polarized <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>W</mi><mi>Z</mi></math> inclusive production at the LHC, in the case of fully leptonic decays. Additionally, we provide estimates for missing higher-order uncertainties in QCD associated with doubly polarized differential cross sections and joint polarization fractions, obtained both with standard scale variations and with a theory-nuisance-parameter approach. The study is carried out in the fiducial setup of a recent ATLAS analysis of Run-2 data.

Precise predictions for joint polarization fractions in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>W</mi><mi>Z</mi></math> production at the LHC

A comprehensive study of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> energy correlator as a probe of nonperturbative hadronization in color-octet <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>c</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>c</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> production is performed. The energy correlator measures the energy flow as a function of the angular distance (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math>) from the identified <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> meson. Using the pythia8 Monte Carlo event generator, the correlator is computed at both parton and hadron levels. At high-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> transverse momentum (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>p</mi><mi>T</mi></msub><mo>&gt;</mo><mn>7</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>GeV</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>c</mi></math>), the parton-level correlator in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>cos</mi><mi>χ</mi><mo>&gt;</mo><mn>0</mn></math> region is dominated by soft gluon emission during the hadronization of the color-octet state, a contribution clearly distinguishable from other partonic sources, such as underlying multiparton interactions. The transition to the hadron level, however, introduces substantial modifications, suppressing the correlator in this region by approximately an order of magnitude and underscoring the complexity of the hadronization mapping. Further analysis reveals that the hadron-level observable exhibits notable sensitivity to model parameters: increasing the mass splitting between colored <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>c</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>c</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> pre-resonances and the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> meson from 0.2 to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.8</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>GeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mi>c</mi><mn>2</mn></msup></math> enhances the correlator by up to 60%, while extending the color reconnection range yields a milder enhancement of about 10%. These findings demonstrate that precise measurements of the hadron-level <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> energy correlator, when interpreted within robust event-generator frameworks, can provide novel constraints on hadronization dynamics and help clarify the production mechanisms of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> state.

Hadronization impact on <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> energy correlators: A pythia8 study from partonic to hadronic observables

We search for the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>γ</mi><msub><mi>χ</mi><mrow><mi>b</mi><mi>J</mi></mrow></msub></math> (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn></math>, 1, 2) processes at center-of-mass energies <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>10.653</mn></math>, 10.701, 10.746, and 10.804 GeV. These data were collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider and correspond to 3.5, 1.6, 9.8, and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>4.7</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> of integrated luminosity, respectively. We set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>γ</mi><msub><mi>χ</mi><mrow><mi>b</mi><mi>J</mi></mrow></msub></math> at each center-of-mass energy <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt></math> near 10.746 GeV.
