Various weak processes at the hadronic scale have been utilized to search for new physics at high energy scale, which can be described by the QCD chiral Lagrangian matched from the low-energy effective theory (LEFT). Utilizing the chiral symmetry SU(2) × SU(2) → SU(2) at the quark and hadronic levels, we make a comprehensive comparison of various matching methods, including the external source method, conventional spurion method, and our systematic spurion method. Although different methods show agreements for dimension-6 LEFT operator matching, we find that for higher-dimensional operators, the external source method is quite limited or inapplicable, the conventional spurion methods needs to introduce more and more spurions, while our spurion method does not need to introduce any new spurions than the ones in the dimension-6 matching. Using minimal set of spurions, we thus establish an one-to-one correspondence between the LEFT and chiral operators, with several examples, such as derivative operators at dimensions 7 and 8 with a single bilinear, four-quark operators at the dimension-9 level with two quark bilinears, which can be applied to the study of neutrino/electron scatterings and neutrinoless double beta decay.

Matching from quark to hadronic operators: external source vs spurion methods

Electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) constitutes a theoretically compelling and experimentally testable mechanism for explaining the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU). New results for the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron place significant constraints on the beyond Standard Model CP-violation needed for successful EWBG. Using a specific model illustration, we show how new developments in EWBG quantum transport theory that include CP-violating sources first order in gradients imply more relaxed EDM constraints – and thereby greater EWBG viability – than implied by previous approximation formulations. We also illustrate how these developments enable a more realistic treatment of CP-conserving interactions that can also have a decisive impact on the predicted BAU.

Does the electron EDM preclude electroweak baryogenesis?

The charmed baryon was first observed experimentally in 1975, one year after the charm quark's confirmation via the discovery of the $ J/\psi $ particle. Studying charmed baryon decays provides a pathway to investigate both strong and weak interactions, leveraging the weak decays of the embedded charm quark. However, for approximately three decades following its discovery, experimental knowledge of charmed baryons remained significantly limited compared to those of the hidden-charm $\textit{ψ}$ mesons and open-charm $ D_{(s)} $ mesons. This situation changed markedly starting in 2014, when dedicated data collection for charmed baryons commenced at BESIII. In this article, we review the experimental progress achieved since 2014 in understanding the weak decays of the charmed baryons.

Electroweak (EW) amplitudes in the gauge-Goldstone five-component formalism have a distinctive property: gauge symmetry is imprinted in the amplitudes, manifested as the massive Ward identity (MWI) $ k^M{\cal{M}}_M=0 $ . In this study, we used the HELAS package to numerically study gauge symmetry in EW amplitudes. First, we directly tested gauge symmetry by examining the MWI of amplitudes. Second, we modified the couplings within a vertex and among vertices to check if and how the MWI changes. Third, we tested gauge symmetry by considering the couplings modified by operators from the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT). Similar to the standard model, there are relations between different couplings that are protected by gauge symmetry. We observed that, if we modify the couplings to deviate from the relations, the MWI is violated. In contrast, the MWI is restored when the relations between couplings reduce to those in the SMEFT.

The high-density region of the QCD phase diagram displays an intricate competition between color superconductivity and the QCD Kondo effect due to color exchange in quark matter containing a single heavy quark impurity. We explore the characteristic impurity-induced superconducting subgap states arising in such systems by generalizing the surrogate model solver, recently considered in the context of condensed matter physics [<a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.108.L220506">Phys. Rev. B 108, L220506 (2023)</a>]. The method consists of approximating the full superconducting bulk by only a small number of effective levels whose parameters are chosen so as to best reproduce the Matsubara frequency dependence of the impurity-bulk hybridization function. We numerically solve a surrogate QCD Kondo model describing a quantum impurity color exchange coupled to a two-color two-flavor superconducting bulk. The results directly indicate the presence of multiple phase transitions as the coupling of the impurity to the bulk is increased, due to the interplay between various overscreened states. The methods introduced here are straightforward enough to be extended to more realistic QCD scenarios.

Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states in color-superconducting quark matter

Building on our automated framework that uses ring diagrams for classifying <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> basis invariants Neda Darvishi et al., [<a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.108.115030">Phys. Rev. D 108, 115030 (2023)</a>], this paper broadens the application of the methodology with more extensive examples and a wider scope of theoretical frameworks. Here, we showcase its versatility through detailed analyses of specific operators in the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT), such as a four-fermion operator at dimension-6 and a Yukawa operator extended up to dimension-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>2</mn><mi>n</mi></math> terms while maintaining a dimension-6 core, as well as in SMEFT with sterile neutrinos (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>ν</mi><mi>SMEFT</mi></math>) up to dimension-7. By integrating the ring-diagram technique with the Cayley-Hamilton theorem, we have developed a system that not only simplifies the process of identifying basic and joint invariants but also enables the automatic differentiation between <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-even and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-odd invariants from the lowest orders. Additionally, this work presents a comparison of our results with those derived using the traditional Hilbert-Poincaré series and its Plethystic logarithm. While these conventional approaches primarily yield the numerical count of invariants, our framework provides a complete structure of invariants, thereby surpassing the limitations of these traditional methods.

Identifying <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> basis invariants in the SMEFT

The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> properties of effective operators are closely related to the spacetime and internal symmetries, such as the flavor symmetry, in the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT). In this work, we utilize the flavor symmetry to organize and reduce numbers of independent Wilson coefficients of the SMEFT operators. We classify the dimension-6 and dimension-8 baryon/lepton-number-conserving operators based on their <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> properties. The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>U</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>1</mn><msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mn>4</mn></msup></math> rephasing symmetry is applied to distinguish <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-violating and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-odd operators, which leads to reduction of the independent <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-violating phases. The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>U</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3</mn><msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mn>5</mn></msup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>U</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2</mn><msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mn>5</mn></msup></math> flavor symmetries let us classify the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-violating phases as the flavor invariants, which can be enumerated by the Hilbert series and obtained explicitly by the Young tensor method. Then after introducing the minimal flavor violation (MFV) hypothesis, we present the flavor structures of the dimension-6 and dimension-8 SMEFT operators under the MFV hypothesis utilizing the spurion method.

Flavor and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> symmetries in the standard model effective field theory

We study the inelastic charmonium ( $ J/\psi $ , $ \psi(2S) $ ) and bottomonium ( $ \Upsilon(nS) $ ) photoproduction and fragmentation processes in $\textit{p}$-$\textit{p}$ and $ \rm Pb$ - $\rm Pb$ collisions at LHC energies, where the ultra-incoherent photon emission is included. Using the NRQCD factorization approach, an exact treatment is developed. This approach recovers the Weizsäcker-Williams approximation (WWA) near the $ Q^{2}\sim0 $ region, where the Martin-Ryskin and BCCKL methods are used to avoid double counting. We calculated the $ Q^{2} $ , $\textit{y}$, $\textit{z}$, $ \sqrt{s} $ , and $ p_{T} $ dependent and total cross sections. Inelastic photoproduction and fragmentation were observed to contribute to heavy quarkonium production, particularly at large $ p_{T} $ . In addition, the contribution of the ultra-incoherent photon channel, which increases rapidly with quarkonium mass, is significant and begins to dominate the photoproduction processes for large $ p_{T} $ . We also obtained the complete WWA validity scopes of inelastic heavy quarkonium photoproduction in heavy-ion collisions. The WWA had high accuracy at high energies and for $\rm Pb $ - $\rm Pb $ collisions. However, current photon spectra are derived beyond the WWA scope, and double counting can occur when considering different channels simultaneously.

In this study, we investigate a two-component scalar dark matter framework featuring two singlet scalar fields as dark matter candidates. To ensure vacuum stability, we employ copositive criteria for the scalar potential. We analyze four distinct copositive scenarios characterized by specific negative parameter configurations using direct detection constraints. A comprehensive parameter space scan is performed under joint constraints from the observed dark matter relic density and direct detection experiments. The different signs of couplings not only correspond to different copositive criteria but also contribute to different parameter spaces caused by interference. The allowed values of quartic couplings are different for the four different cases; however, they all require the new Higgs to play a dominant role in determining dark matter relic density within the viable parameter space.

Recent years have seen the development and growth of machine learning in high-energy physics. However, additional effort is required to continue exploring the use of machine learning to its full potential. To simplify the application of the existing algorithms and neural networks and to advance the reproducibility of the analysis, we developed HEP ML LAB ( $ \mathrm{hml}$ ), a Python-based, end-to-end framework for phenomenology studies. It covers the complete workflow from event generation to performance evaluation, and provides a consistent style of use for different approaches. We propose an observable naming convention to streamline the data extraction and conversion processes. In the KERAS style, we provide the traditional cut-and-count and boosted decision trees together with neural networks. We take the $W^+ $ tagging as an example and evaluate all built-in approaches with the metrics of significance and background rejection. With its modular design, HEP ML LAB is easy to extend and customize, and can be used as a tool for both beginners and experienced researchers.
