A first determination of the strong-phase difference between <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>D</mi><mn>0</mn></msup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mover accent="true"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>D</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup></mrow><mrow><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mrow></mover><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> is performed using <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3770</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>D</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>D</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> data collected by the BESIII detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>20.3</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The measurements are made in four pairs of bins in phase space, which are chosen to provide optimal sensitivity to the angle <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>γ</mi></math> of the unitarity triangle in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>±</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>D</mi><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>±</mo></msup></math> decays. From these measurements, it follows that the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-even fraction of the decay is <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>F</mi><mo>+</mo></msub><mo>=</mo><mn>0.754</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.01</mn><msub><mn>0</mn><mrow><mi>stat</mi></mrow></msub><mo>±</mo><mspace linebreak="goodbreak"></mspace><mn>0.00</mn><msub><mn>8</mn><mrow><mi>syst</mi></mrow></msub></math>. In addition, the branching fraction of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>D</mi><mn>0</mn></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> is measured to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2.863</mn><mo>±</mo><mspace linebreak="goodbreak"></mspace><mn>0.02</mn><msub><mn>8</mn><mrow><mi>stat</mi></mrow></msub><mo>±</mo><mn>0.04</mn><msub><mn>5</mn><mrow><mi>syst</mi></mrow></msub><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>3</mn></mrow></msup></math>, which is twice as precise as previous results obtained at other experiments.

Using a sample of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>10087</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>44</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mn>6</mn></msup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the first evidence for the doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI)-suppressed decay <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>η</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>ϕ</mi></math> is reported with a significance of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>4.0</mn><mi>σ</mi></mrow></math>. The branching fraction of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>η</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>ϕ</mi></math> is measured to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msub><mi>η</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>ϕ</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>=</mo><mspace linebreak="goodbreak"></mspace><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3.86</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.92</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.62</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>5</mn></mrow></msup></math>, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence of doubly OZI-suppressed decay <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>η</mi><mi>c</mi></msub><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>ϕ</mi></math> in the radiative decay <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>γ</mi><msub><mi>η</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math>

We study higher-derivative corrections to the graviton scattering amplitude in M-theory, via the stress tensor correlator of 3d $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 8 U($\textit{N}$) × U($\textit{N}$) ABJM theory (dual to graviton scattering in M-theory on AdS × $\textit{S}$ /$\textit{ℤ}$ ). We use the conformal bootstrap combined with an integral constraint derived from supersymmetric localization in order to constrain semishort OPE coefficients appearing in the stress tensor correlator. We obtain islands that are significantly more precise than those in previous studies that did not use the integral constraint. Using these islands, we can estimate the powers and coefficients in a large central charge expansion. This allows us to accurately read off the N LO contribution, from the protected $\textit{D}$ $\textit{R}$ correction, and also estimate the N LO contribution, from the unprotected $\textit{D}$ $\textit{R}$ correction.

The chiral worldvolume theory of an M-theory boundary (the so-called M9 brane) is uniquely determined by supersymmetry and anomaly inflow. In this brief note we investigate whether alternative chiral boundary field contents may be allowed by anomaly cancellation once supersymmetry is dropped. Even then, anomaly inflow places stringent constraints on the gauge group $\textit{G}$ and matter content of the boundary worldvolume theory, which we determine explicitly. We find the most general solution to these constraints in the case where all matter fields are of the same chirality, for all simple Lie algebras except $$ {\mathfrak{sp}}_2 $$ , $$ {\mathfrak{su}}_{n\le 5} $$ , and $$ {\mathfrak{so}}_n $$ with 7 ≤ $\textit{n}$ ≤ 12, and find no solutions other than the supersymmetric $\textit{E}$ boundary of Hořava and Witten. However, when we extend our search to allow for any chirality in the matter fields, we find one minimal solution with gauge group $\textit{G}$ , charged matter in the 14, 27 and 77 representations, which satisfies all constraints in a non-trivial way. Therefore, it could in principle describe the low-energy theory of a novel nonsupersymmetric M-theory boundary condition, different from the Hořava-Witten proposal. We briefly discuss some consequences if this was indeed the case, such as the existence of a non-supersymmetric, exotic “$\textit{G}$ -string” CFT in 6d, and a novel, non-perturbative, heterotic-like 10d string with gauge group $\textit{G}$ × $\textit{G}$ .

M-theory boundaries beyond supersymmetry

An upper limit on the branching fraction of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>p</mi><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mo>+</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> is found to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>3.1</mn><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>8</mn></mrow></msup></math> at 90% confidence level.

Search for the baryon and lepton number violating decay <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>p</mi><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mo>+</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">c</mi><mo>.</mo></math>

Using a sample of (2$\textit{.}$712 ± 0$\textit{.}$014) × 10 $\textit{ψ}$(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron positron collider BEPCII, the decay $\textit{ψ}$(3686) → $$ {\Xi}^{-}{K}_S^0{\overline{\varOmega}}^{+} $$ + $\textit{c.c.}$ is observed for the first time, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be (2$\textit{.}$91 ± 0$\textit{.}$47 ± 0$\textit{.}$33) × 10 , where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio between $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varXi}^{-}{K}_S^0{\overline{\varOmega}}^{+}+c.c} $$ and $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+c.c} $$ is determined to be 1$\textit{.}$05 ± 0$\textit{.}$23 ± 0$\textit{.}$14, which deviates from the isospin symmetry conservation predicted value of 0.5 by 2$\textit{.}$1$\textit{σ}$.

Observation of $\textit{ψ}$(3686) $\textit{→}$ $$ {\Xi}^{-}{K}_S^0{\overline{\varOmega}}^{+} $$ + c.c.

By analyzing $\textit{e}$ $\textit{e}$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb , we measure the branching fractions of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) decays $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ , $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ , $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ , $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ , $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ , and $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{K}$ $\textit{K}$ . We also perform the first searches for $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{η}$, $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{η}$, $\textit{D}$ $\textit{→ K}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{η}$, $\textit{D}$ → $\textit{K}$ ($\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{η}$) , and $\textit{D}$ → $\textit{K}$ $\textit{ηη}$ and report the first observations and evidence for some of these final states. Combining the measurements with the world averages of the corresponding Cabibbo-favored (CF) decays, the ratios of the DCS/CF branching fractions are obtained. For the $\textit{D}$ → $\textit{K}$ ($\textit{π}$ $\textit{π}$ $\textit{η}$) decay, the ratio is significantly larger than the corresponding ratios of the other DCS decays.

Measurement of the branching fractions of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed $\textit{D}$ decays

We explore the impact of loop effects on positivity in effective field theories emerging in the infrared from unitary and causal microscopic dynamics. Focusing on massless particles coupled to gravity, we address the treatment of forward-limit divergences from loop discontinuities and establish necessary conditions for maintaining computational control in perturbation theory. While loop effects remain small, ensuring consistency in our approach leads to a significant impact on bounds, even at tree level.
