We consider complex, supersymmetric, non-extremal Euclidean black holes that are asymptotically locally AdS , with $\textit{S}$ × $\textit{M}$ conformal boundary. We study field theory backgrounds consisting of various $\textit{M}$ , and explicitly construct Killing spinors that are anti-periodic around the Euclidean time circle. Focussing on elliptically/biaxially squashed three-spheres and Lens spaces, we compute the supersymmetric index of the 𝒩 = 4 SYM in a Cardy-like limit. While such black holes have not been constructed for general $\textit{M}$ , we demonstrate that the supersymmetric indices can be recovered from gravity computations using equivariant localization, by extending the boundary Killing spinors to the bulk. We show that this involves gluing the black hole geometry with a supersymmetric, horizonless AlAdS geometry, chosen such that the Casimir energy is removed from the supersymmetric partition function.

A search for the pair production of heavy spin-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>1</mn><mo>/</mo><mn>2</mn></math> or spin-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>3</mn><mo>/</mo><mn>2</mn></math> resonances (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>t</mi><mo>*</mo></msup></math>) in proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> is presented. Data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC from 2016 to 2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> are used. All-hadronic final states from the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>t</mi></math> pair decay chain are selected using jet substructure techniques. The signal is probed as a function of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>t</mi><mo>*</mo></msup></math> candidate mass, which is reconstructed using the photon and a top quark candidate jet. No significant deviation from the background-only hypothesis is found. Observed (expected) upper limits on the signal cross section at 95% confidence level are set, excluding masses of spin-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>1</mn><mo>/</mo><mn>2</mn></math> <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>t</mi><mo>*</mo></msup></math> particles below 930 (930) GeV and spin-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>3</mn><mo>/</mo><mn>2</mn></math> <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>t</mi><mo>*</mo></msup></math> particles below 1330 (1390) GeV. This analysis marks the first search for heavy resonances in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mrow><mi>t</mi><mover accent="true"><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow><mrow><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow><mi>γ</mi><mi>g</mi></mrow></math> channel. Search for pair production of heavy resonances in final states with a photon and large-radius jets in proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math>

We consider M-theory on the backgrounds $$ {\mathrm{AdS}}_4\times {S}^7/{\mathbb{Z}}_{N_f} $$ and AdS × $\textit{S}$ /ℤ , which have fixed point loci AdS × $\textit{S}$ for $\textit{d}$ = 3, 6. These theories are holographically dual to certain CFTs in $\textit{d}$ = 3, 6 with eight supercharges. We compute the bulk cubic couplings between graviton KK modes and gluon KK modes living on the fixed points of these theories, which are generically extremal. We use these couplings to compute the graviton exchange term that appears in the strong coupling expansion of holographic correlators of gluon KK modes 〈22$\textit{pp}$〉 in these theories, and check that it matches the expected flat space limit. We express the answer in terms of a new reduced correlator solution to the superconformal Ward identities, which we derive for all CFTs with eight supercharges in 3 ≤ $\textit{d}$ ≤ 6.

The ratio between the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mi>B</mi><mi>c</mi><mo>+</mo></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow></mrow><msup><mi>τ</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msub><mi>ν</mi><mi>τ</mi></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mi>B</mi><mi>c</mi><mo>+</mo></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow></mrow><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msub><mi>ν</mi><mi>μ</mi></msub></math> branching fractions is measured using a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected by CMS at a center-of-mass energy of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math> in the years 2016–2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> meson is identified through its <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mrow><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></mrow></math> decay and the tau lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic three-prong final state. The measured ratio of branching fractions in this tau decay mode, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="script">R</mi><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow><mi>had</mi></msubsup><mo>=</mo><mn>1.0</mn><msubsup><mn>4</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>0.44</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>0.50</mn></mrow></msubsup></math>, is combined with the previous analysis based on the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>τ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msub><mrow><mi>ν</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow></msub><msub><mrow><mover accent="true"><mrow><mi>ν</mi></mrow><mrow><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow><mrow><mi>τ</mi></mrow></msub></mrow></math> leptonic decay channel, leading to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="script">R</mi><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow></msub><mo>=</mo><mrow><mn>0.49</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.26</mn></mrow></math>. As this result is consistent with the standard model prediction of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.258</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.004</mn></math>, no evidence of lepton flavor universality violation is found.

A search is performed for dark matter produced in association with bottom quarks and a pair of electrons or muons in data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to 138 fb of integrated luminosity of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. For the first time at the LHC, the associated production of a bottom quark-antiquark pair and a new heavy neutral Higgs boson (H) that subsequently decays into a leptonically decaying Z boson and a pseudoscalar (a) is explored. The latter acts as a dark matter mediator in the context of the two Higgs doublet model plus a pseudoscalar (2HDM+a). Multivariate techniques that target a wide range of mass configurations for the H and a particles are used. The observations are consistent with the expectations from standard model processes. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the product of cross section and branching fraction of the new particles, ranging from 10 pb for an H mass of 400 GeV to 10 pb for an H mass of 2000 GeV. Constraints on the parameter space of a benchmark 2HDM+a model are derived and compared with expectations in the context of cosmological predictions.

Search for dark matter production in association with bottom quarks and a lepton pair in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s}=13 $$ TeV

The existence of a large extra dimension in which only gravity propagates would have spectacular consequences for cosmology and laboratory experiments. In the strong coupling limit of the $\textit{E}$ × $\textit{E}$ heterotic string theory, the gauge and matter fields live at the end of the eleventh dimension, which becomes a natural candidate for a micron-size $\textit{dark dimension}$. In this work, however, we show that the length of the M-theory interval is severely constrained by proton decay searches. Our results indicate that in such constructions the size of the eleventh dimension is $\textit{R}$ ≲ 𝒪(10 ) meters.

A search for dark matter particles produced in association with a Higgs boson decaying to a bottom quark-antiquark pair in proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math> is presented. The data, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>101</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mrow><mi>fb</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math>. The analysis is performed in exclusive categories targeting both Lorentz-boosted (merged) and resolved <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>b</mi></math> jet pair topologies, covering a wide range of Higgs boson transverse momentum. A statistical combination is made with a previous search using data collected in 2016 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>35.9</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mrow><mi>fb</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math>. The observed data agree with the standard model background predictions. Constraints are placed on models predicting new particles or interactions, such as those in the simplified frameworks of baryonic-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>Z</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>′</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>HDM</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>a</mi></mrow></math>, where the latter is a type-II two-Higgs-doublet model featuring a heavy pseudoscalar with an additional light pseudoscalar. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section for these models. For the baryonic-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>Z</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>′</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> model, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>Z</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>′</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> boson masses below 2.25 TeV are excluded for a dark matter particle candidate mass of 1 GeV. In the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>HDM</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>a</mi></mrow></math> model, heavy pseudoscalar masses between 850 and 1300 GeV are excluded for a light pseudoscalar mass of 350 GeV.

The Higgs boson (H) decay width is determined from the ratio of off- and on-shell production of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>H</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>W</mi><mi>W</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>e</mi><mi>ν</mi><mi>μ</mi><mi>ν</mi></math> using proton–proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> collected at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The off-shell signal strength is measured as <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>μ</mi><mrow><mi>off</mi><mtext>−</mtext><mi>shell</mi></mrow></msub><mo>=</mo><msubsup><mn>1.2</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>0.7</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>0.8</mn></mrow></msubsup></math>. The Higgs boson total decay width is <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Γ</mi><mi>H</mi></msub><mo>=</mo><msubsup><mn>3.9</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>2.2</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>2.7</mn></mrow></msubsup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi></math>, in agreement with the standard model prediction. The uncertainty in this result represents a factor of 3 improvement over the previous CMS result in this decay channel.

A search for long-lived particles using final states including a displaced vertex with low-momentum tracks, large missing transverse momentum, and a jet from initial-state radiation is presented. This search uses proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in 2017 and 2018, with a total integrated luminosity of 100 fb . This analysis adopts specific supersymmetric (SUSY) coannihilation scenarios as benchmark signal models, characterized by a next-to-lightest SUSY particle (NLSP) with a mass difference of less than 25 GeV relative to the lightest SUSY particle, assumed to be a bino-like neutralino. In the top squark $$ \left(\overset{\sim }{\mathrm{t}}\right) $$ NLSP model, the NLSP is a long-lived $$ \overset{\sim }{\mathrm{t}} $$ , while in the bino-wino NLSP scenario, the mass-degenerate NLSPs are a wino-like long-lived neutralino and a short-lived chargino. The search excludes top squarks with masses less than 400–1100 GeV and wino-like neutralinos with masses less than 220–550 GeV, depending on the signal parameters, including the mass difference, mass, and lifetime of the long-lived particle. It sets the most stringent limits to date for the $$ \overset{\sim }{\mathrm{t}} $$ and bino-wino NLSP models.

Search for long-lived particles using displaced vertices with low-momentum tracks in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s}=13 $$ TeV

The results of a search for the production of two scalar bosons in final states with two photons and two tau leptons are presented. The search considers both nonresonant production of a Higgs boson pair, HH, and resonant production via a new boson X which decays either to HH or to H and a new scalar Y. The analysis uses up to 138 fb of proton-proton collision data, recorded between 2016 and 2018 by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No evidence for signal is found in the data. For the nonresonant production, the observed (expected) upper limit at 95% confidence level (CL) on the HH production cross section is set at 930 (740) fb, corresponding to 33 (26) times the standard model prediction. At 95% CL, HH production is observed (expected) to be excluded for values of $\textit{κ}$ outside the range between −12 (−9.4) and 17 (15). Observed (expected) upper limits at 95% CL for the X → HH cross section are found to be within 160 to 2200 (200 to 1800) fb, depending on the mass of X. In the X → Y(ττ)H(γγ) search, the observed (expected) upper limits on the product of the production cross section and decay branching fractions vary between 0.059–1.2 fb (0.087–0.68 fb). For the X → Y(γγ)H(ττ) search the observed (expected) upper limits on the product of the production cross section and Y → γγ branching fraction vary between 0.69–15 fb (0.73–8.3 fb) in the low Y mass search, tightening constraints on the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, and between 0.64–10 fb (0.70–7.6 fb) in the high Y mass search.
