Due to Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, atomic electrons localized around the nucleus exhibit a characteristic momentum distribution that, in elements with high atomic number, remains significant up to relativistic values. Consequently, in fixed-target experiments, atoms can effectively act as electron accelerators, increasing the centre-of-mass energy in collisions with beam particles. In this work, we leverage this effect to explore its potential for new physics searches. We consider positrons from beams of various energies annihilating with atomic electrons in a W fixed target. We compute the production rates of new vector bosons and pseudoscalar particles as functions of their couplings and masses. We show that the electron-at-rest approximation significantly underestimates the mass reach for producing these new states compared to the results obtained by properly accounting for atomic electron momenta. In particular, we estimate the sensitivity for detecting these new particles using the positron beam at the Beam Test Facility linac at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, the H4 beamline in the CERN North Area, and the proposed Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility of Jefferson Laboratory.

Recently, the Belle II Collaboration reported the branching fraction <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mi>ν</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>ν</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>=</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2.3</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.7</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mn>10</mn><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>5</mn></mrow></msup></math> with a significance of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>3.5</mn><mi>σ</mi></math>, which is <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>2.7</mn><mi>σ</mi></math> above the Standard Model expectation. Motivated by this measurement, we calculate this decay channel at the next-to-leading order and twist-three level using the perturbative QCD approach. By combining lattice QCD data with our results, we obtain form factors with improved reliability. Using these form factors, we estimate the branching ratios of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup></math> semileptonic flavor-changing neutral current decays, including <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mi>ν</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>ν</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mo>ℓ</mo><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mo>ℓ</mo><mo>−</mo></msup></math>. To address the anomalies in these two processes, we introduce a leptoquark model as a new physics scenario. Analyzing five possible types of leptoquarks, we successfully explain the latest experimental measurements and derive further constraints on the leptoquarks. Furthermore, the single leptoquark model becomes invalid once the stringent constraints from process <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>B</mi><mi>s</mi></msub><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>B</mi><mi>s</mi></msub><mo>−</mo><mover accent="true"><msub><mi>B</mi><mi>s</mi></msub><mo stretchy="true">¯</mo></mover></math> mixing is taken into account.

Probing <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup></math> semileptonic FCNC decay with new physics effects in the PQCD approach

We illustrate the potential of a future high-intensity $$e^+ e^-$$ collider running at the $\textit{Z}$ pole in probing extensions of the Standard Model via precise measurements of flavor-changing processes. We illustrate this potential both within effective field theories and simplified models inspired by current $\textit{B}$-physics data, focusing on selected flavor-physics measurement projections at FCC-ee, and by the theoretically well-motivated scenario of TeV-scale new physics predominantly coupled to third-generation fields. In particular, we demonstrate the key role played by the interplay among different flavor-physics measurements, and between flavor and electroweak measurements, in cornering the New Physics parameter space. Updated constraints on new physics, in the limit that no deviations from the Standard Model are observed, are also presented.

Flavored circular collider: cornering New Physics at FCC-ee via flavor-changing processes

We explore the prospects for probing new physics (NP) beyond the Standard Model (SM) at the future lepton colliders through precision measurements of $\textit{e}$ $\textit{e}$ → $$ f\overline{f} $$ observables off the $\textit{Z}$ resonance. We consider the interference between the SM contributions and those arising from the dimension-6 four-fermion effective operators that encode the effects of NP, yielding a linear dependence on the latter. This linear dependence in general increases with the collision energy offset from the $\textit{Z}$ pole. We consider a variety of asymmetries in order to enhance the NP sensitivity while reducing the experimental systematic and theoretical SM uncertainties: the inclusive above- and below-$\textit{Z}$-resonance cross section asymmetry ($\textit{A}$ ) as well as the conventional forward-backward ($\textit{A}$ ) and polarization ($\textit{A}$ ) asymmetries. Based on the projected statistical uncertainties at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), we find that the measurement of $\textit{A}$ could extend the sensitivity to the NP mass scale by as much as a factor of ~ 7 compared to the present reach obtained with the CERN Large Electron Positron Collider. The projected systematic theoretical SM uncertainties substantially reduce this sensitivity gain. For $\textit{A}$ , the experimental systematic uncertainties has a marginal impact on the gain in NP reach, whereas the SM theoretical uncertainties remain a significant barrier to realizing the full NP sensitivity. Analogous conclusions apply to the CERN Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) and International Linear Collider (ILC).

New physics off the $\textit{Z}$-pole: $\textit{e}$

Motivated by a small but intriguing excess observed in the decay mode $\textit{H}$ → $\textit{ℓ}$ $\textit{ℓ}$ $\textit{γ}$ reported by both the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we explore the possibility that new physics contributes directly to the effective $$ H\overline{\mathcal{ll}}\gamma $$ coupling rather than modifying the $\textit{Z}$ peak. Concretely, we consider a dimension-8 operator that could arise from new particles via box diagrams. Such non-resonant contribution may provide an alternative origin for current or future excesses. We examine how experimental cuts may distinguish between possible modifications of the $\textit{Z}$ peak and non-resonant contributions. The currently measured excess requires that the new physics scale is relatively low (Λ ~ $\textit{v}$). However, we show that it may remain within current experimental bounds. In particular, we illustrate this using a simplified model, motivated by the dark matter problem, and discuss its other experimental constraints.

On new physics off the Z peak in $\textit{H → ℓ}$

Neutrino telescopes, including IceCube, can detect galactic supernova events by observing the collective rise in photomultiplier count rates with a subsecond time resolution. Leveraging precise timing, we demonstrate for the first time the ability of neutrino telescopes to explore new weakly coupled states emitted from supernovae and subsequently decaying to neutrinos. Our approach utilizes publicly available packages, asteria and snewpy, for simulating detector responses and parametrizing neutrino fluxes originating from the standard model and new physics. We present results for two beyond-the-standard model scenarios and introduce the tool developed for testing a diverse range of new physics models.

Supernovae Time Profiles as a Probe of New Physics at Neutrino Telescopes

Correlation $ \chi^{BQ}_{11} $ and quadratic fluctuations $ \chi^B_2,\ \chi^Q_2,\ \chi^T_2 $ of baryon number $\textit{B}$, electric charge $\textit{Q,}$ and temperature $\textit{T}$ are investigated in a two-flavor Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model at finite temperature and magnetic field. The inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC) effect is introduced through magnetic-field-dependent parameters $ G(eB) $ and $ T_0(eB) $ , and we compare the results in scenarios with and without the IMC effect. Under a nonvanishing magnetic field, correlation $ \chi^{BQ}_{11} $ and fluctuations $ \chi^B_2,\ \chi^Q_2,\ \chi^T_2 $ increase with temperature and then exhibit a peak around the pseudocritical temperatures of chiral restoration and deconfinement phase transitions in the cases with and without the IMC effect. The correlation and fluctuations along the phase transition line under an external magnetic field are characterized by scaled correlation ${\hat {\chi}}_{11}^{BQ}={\chi_{11}^{BQ}(eB,T_{pc}^c(eB))}/{\chi_{11}^{BQ}(eB=0,T_{pc}^c(eB=0))}$ and scaled fluctuations ${\hat {\chi}}_2^{B(Q,T)}={\chi_2^{B(Q,T)}(eB,T_{pc}^c(eB))}/{\chi_2^{B(Q,T)}(eB=0,T_{pc}^c(eB=0))}$ at pseudocritical temperature $ T_{pc}^c $ of chiral restoration phase transition. $ {\hat {\chi}}_{11}^{BQ},\ {\hat {\chi}}_2^{B} $ , and $ {\hat {\chi}}_2^{Q} $ increase with the magnetic field, and the inclusion of the IMC effect enhances their values somewhat. However, $ {\hat {\chi}}_2^{T} $ is altered by the IMC effect. Without the IMC effect, $ {\hat \chi}^T_2 $ increases slightly and then decreases with the magnetic field. Considering the IMC effect using $ G(eB) $ , $ {\hat \chi}^T_2 $ monotonically increases with the magnetic field, and that using $ T_0(eB) $ is a nonmonotonic function of the magnetic field.

Correlations and fluctuations in a magnetized PNJL model with and without the inverse magnetic catalysis effect * Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (12275204)

We search for the leptonic decay $ D^+\to e^+\nu_{e} $ using an $ e^+e^- $ collision data sample with an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb $ ^{-1} $ collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Significant signal is not observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction of $ D^+\to e^+\nu_{e} $ is set as $ 9.7 \times 10^{-7} $ , at a confidence level of 90%. Our upper limit is an order of magnitude smaller than the previous limit for this decay mode.

We introduce a relative $\textit{P}$-wave to construct the doubly charmed diquark $ (\widetilde{V}) $ vector. Therefore, scalar and tensor four-quark currents were constructed to investigate the decay widths of the fully charmed tetraquark states with $ J^{PC}=0^{++} $ , $ 1^{+-} $ and $ 2^{++} $ via quantum chromodynamics (QCD) sum rules. We observed that the total width of the ground state $ \widetilde{V}\overline{\widetilde{V}} $ -type scalar tetraquark state is compatible with that of the $ X(6552) $ within uncertainties, and the branching ratios are quite different from that of the first radial excitation of the $ A\bar{A} $ -type scalar tetraquark state. Other predictions can be verified in future experiments to shed light on the nature of the fully charmed tetraquark states.
