<p>We propose a simple model in the type-III seesaw framework to explain the neutrino mass, asymmetric dark matter (DM), and baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We extend the Standard Model with a vectorlike singlet lepton (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math>) and a hypercharge zero scalar triplet (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi></math>) in addition to three hypercharge zero triplet fermions (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">Σ</mi><mi>i</mi></msub><mo>,</mo><mi>i</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>1</mn></math>, 2, 3). A <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mn>2</mn></msub></math> symmetry is imposed under which <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi></math> are odd, while all other particles are even. As a result, the lightest <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>Z</mi><mn>2</mn></msub></math> odd particle <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> behaves as a candidate of DM. In the early Universe, the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-violating out-of-equilibrium decay of heavy triplet fermions to the Standard Model lepton (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>L</mi></math>) and Higgs (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math>) generate a net lepton asymmetry, while that of triplet fermions to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi></math> generate a net asymmetric DM. The lepton asymmetry is converted to the required baryon asymmetry of the Universe via the electroweak sphalerons, while the asymmetry in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> remains as a DM relic that we observe today. We introduce a singlet scalar <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Φ</mi></math>, with mass <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>M</mi><mi mathvariant="normal">Φ</mi></msub><mo>&lt;</mo><msub><mi>M</mi><mi>χ</mi></msub></math>, which not only assists to deplete the symmetric component of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> through the annihilation process <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mover accent="true"><mi>χ</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mi>χ</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi mathvariant="normal">Φ</mi><mi mathvariant="normal">Φ</mi></math>, but also paves a path to detect DM <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>χ</mi></math> at direct search experiments through <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Φ</mi><mo>−</mo><mi>H</mi></math> mixing. The electroweak symmetry breaking induces a nonzero vacuum expectation value to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi></math>, which leads to an unstable asymmetric DM ranging from a few MeV to hundreds of GeV. We then explore the displaced vertex signatures of the charged components of the scalar triplet <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi></math> at colliders.</p>

Asymmetric long-lived dark matter and leptogenesis from the type-III seesaw framework

We study the possibility of generating dark matter (DM) and baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) simultaneously in an asymmetric DM framework, which also alleviates the small-scale structure issues of cold DM. While the thermal relic of such self-interacting DM remains underabundant due to efficient annihilation into light mediators, a nonzero asymmetry in the dark sector can lead to the survival of the required DM in the Universe. The existence of a light mediator leads to the required self-interactions of DM at small scales while keeping DM properties similar to cold DM at large scales. It also ensures that the symmetric DM component annihilates away, leaving the asymmetric part in the spirit of cogenesis. The particle physics implementation is done in canonical seesaw models of light neutrino mass, connecting it to the origin of DM and BAU. In particular, we consider type-I and type-III seesaw origin of neutrino mass for simplicity and minimality of the field content. We show that the desired self-interactions and relic of DM together with BAU while satisfying relevant constraints lead to strict limits on DM mass <math><mrow><mi>O</mi><mo>(</mo><mi>GeV</mi><mo>)</mo><mo>≲</mo><msub><mrow><mi>M</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>DM</mi></mrow></msub><mo>≲</mo><mn>460</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>GeV</mi></mrow></math>. In spite of being a high-scale seesaw, the models remain verifiable in different experiments, including direct and indirect DM searches as well as colliders.

Asymmetric self-interacting dark matter with a canonical seesaw model

We present the first detailed simulation study of tau neutrino-induced charged current events from atmospheric neutrino interactions in the Iron Calorimeter detector at the proposed India-based Neutrino Observatory laboratory. Since the intrinsic atmospheric neutrino flux at few to 10s of GeV energy comprises only electron and muon neutrinos (and antineutrinos) with a negligible tau neutrino component, any signature of atmospheric tau neutrinos is a signal for neutrino oscillations. We study the tau leptons produced through these charged current interactions via their hadronic decay. These events appear as an excess over the neutral current background where hadrons are the only observable component. We find that the presence of tau neutrinos in the atmospheric neutrino flux can be demonstrated to nearly <math><mn>4</mn><mi>σ</mi></math> confidence with 10 years of data; in addition, these events are sensitive to the neutrino oscillation parameters, <math><msup><mi>sin</mi><mn>2</mn></msup><msub><mi>θ</mi><mn>23</mn></msub></math> and <math><mo>|</mo><mi>Δ</mi><msubsup><mi>m</mi><mn>31</mn><mn>2</mn></msubsup><mo>|</mo></math> (or <math><mo>|</mo><mi>Δ</mi><msubsup><mi>m</mi><mn>32</mn><mn>2</mn></msubsup><mo>|</mo></math>), in the 2–3 sector. Finally, we show that combining these events with the standard muon analysis which is the core goal of the Iron Calorimeter further improves the precision with which these parameters, especially the octant of <math><msub><mi>θ</mi><mn>23</mn></msub></math>, can be measured.

Simulation study of tau neutrino events at the ICAL detector in INO

In this paper, we study charged-current deep-inelastic scattering of muon neutrinos off <math><mmultiscripts><mi>Fe</mi><mprescripts></mprescripts><none></none><mn>56</mn></mmultiscripts></math> nuclei by using the Hirai, Kumano, and Saito model. The LHA parton distribution functions (PDFs) - CT10 are used to describe the partonic content of hadrons. Modification of PDFs inside the nuclei is done by using EPPS16 parametrization at next-to-leading order. Target mass correction has also been incorporated in the calculations. Charged-current deep-inelastic scattering of muon neutrinos (<math><msub><mi>ν</mi><mi>μ</mi></msub></math>) off <math><mmultiscripts><mi>Fe</mi><mprescripts></mprescripts><none></none><mn>56</mn></mmultiscripts></math>

In this work, we study charged current quasi-elastic scattering (QES) of off nucleon and nucleus using a formalism based on the Llewellyn Smith (LS) model. Parameterizations by Galster et al. are used for electric and magnetic Sachʼs form factors of the nucleons. We use the Fermi gas model along with the Pauli suppression condition to take into account the nuclear effects in the anti-neutrino–nucleus QES. We calculate and charged current quasi-elastic scattering differential and total cross sections for different values of axial mass MA, and compare the results with data from the GGM, SKAT, BNL, NOMAD, MINERνA and MiniBooNE experiments. The present theoretical approach gives a good description of differential cross section data. The calculations with axial mass and 1.05 GeV are compatible with data from most of the experiments.

Charged current quasi-elastic scattering of off 12CSupported by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, India

We consider the effect of the chromo-electromagnetic field fluctuations in addition to the collisional as well as the radiative energy losses suffered by heavy quarks while propagating through the hot and dense deconfined medium of quarks and gluons created in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The chromo-electromagnetic field fluctuations play an important role as they lead to an energy gain of heavy quarks of all momenta and are significant at low momentum. We include the effect of these fluctuations, for the first time, while computing the nuclear modification factor (<math><msub><mi>R</mi><mrow><mi>A</mi><mi>A</mi></mrow></msub></math>) of heavy mesons, viz., <math><mi>D</mi></math> mesons and <math><mi>B</mi></math> mesons, and compare with the experimental measurements in Pb-Pb collisions at <math><mrow><msqrt><msub><mi>s</mi><mrow><mi>N</mi><mi>N</mi></mrow></msub></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>2.76</mn></mrow></math> and <math><mrow><mn>5.02</mn></mrow></math> TeV by the CMS and ALICE experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Our results are found to be in very good agreement with the measurements.

Effect of the chromo-electromagnetic field fluctuations on heavy quark propagation in a deconfined hadronic medium at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

A dedicated search is presented for new phenomena in inclusive 8- and 10-jet final states with low missing transverse momentum, with and without identification of jets originating from b quarks. The analysis is based on data from proton–proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at s=8TeV . The dominant multijet background expectations are obtained from low jet multiplicity control samples. Data agree well with the standard model background predictions, and limits are set in several benchmark models. Colorons (axigluons) with masses between 0.6 and 0.75 (up to 1.15) TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. Similar exclusion limits for gluinos in R -parity violating supersymmetric scenarios are from 0.6 up to 1.1 TeV. These results comprise the first experimental probe of the coloron and axigluon models in multijet final states.

Search for new phenomena in events with high jet multiplicity and low missing transverse momentum in proton–proton collisions at s=8TeV

We study the charged pion transverse momentum <math id="M4"><mo>(</mo><msub><mrow><mi>p</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>T</mi></mrow></msub><mo>)</mo></math> spectra in <math id="M5"><mi>p</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>p</mi></math> collisions as a function of collision energy <math id="M6"><mrow><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt></mrow></math> and event multiplicity using Tsallis distribution. This study gives an insight of the pion production process in <math id="M7"><mi>p</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>p</mi></math> collisions. The study covers pion spectra measured in <math id="M8"><mi>p</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>p</mi></math> collisions at SPS energies (6.27–17.27 GeV), RHIC energies (62.4 GeV and 200 GeV), and LHC energies (900 GeV, 2.76 TeV, and 7 TeV). The Tsallis parameters have been obtained and parameterized as a function of <math id="M9"><mrow><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt></mrow></math>. The study suggests that as we move to higher energy more and more hard processes contribute to the spectra. We also study the charged pion spectra for different event multiplicities in <math id="M10"><mi>p</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>p</mi></math> collisions for LHC energies using Tsallis distribution. The variation of the Tsallis parameters as a function of event multiplicity has been obtained and their behavior is found to be independent of collision energy.
