A new technique is developed to identify dielectrons (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></mrow></math>) with Lorentz boost <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>γ</mi><mi mathvariant="normal">L</mi></msub><mo>&gt;</mo><mn>20</mn></math> that produce one single merged cluster in the electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS detector. The identification uses two multivariate models: one for the case where both electron tracks are reconstructed, and another where only one of the tracks is reconstructed. The efficiency is determined using proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Boosted <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></math> mesons decaying into <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>e</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>e</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> pairs are used to estimate the efficiency of the model with two tracks, yielding an overall efficiency of 80%. The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>Z</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>μ</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><mi>γ</mi></math> events, where the photon converts into a collimated dielectron, are used for the model with a single track, yielding an efficiency of about 60%. A dedicated energy correction for dielectron candidates is also developed using <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>±</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>±</mo></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>e</mi><mo>−</mo></msup><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>±</mo></msup></math> data.

Highly boosted dielectron identification in proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math>

A search for Higgs boson (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math>) production in association with two vector bosons (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>V</mi><mo>=</mo><mi>W</mi></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>Z</mi></math>) via vector-boson scattering (VBS) is presented using proton-proton collision data collected at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. Events containing two forward jets consistent with VBS, a large-radius jet from the decay of a boosted <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math> to a pair of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>b</mi></math> quarks, and zero, one, or two charged leptons coming from <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>V</mi></math> decays are selected. The process is excluded at 95% confidence level for observed (expected) values of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>V</mi><mi>V</mi><mi>H</mi><mi>H</mi></math> coupling modifier <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>κ</mi><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>V</mi></mrow></msub></math> outside the interval <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.40</mn><mo>&lt;</mo><msub><mi>κ</mi><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>V</mi></mrow></msub><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>1.60</mn></math> (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>0.34</mn><mo>&lt;</mo><msub><mi>κ</mi><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>V</mi></mrow></msub><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>1.66</mn></math>), assuming standard model values for all other couplings, thus establishing a novel probe of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>V</mi><mi>V</mi><mi>H</mi><mi>H</mi></math> interaction. Constraints are also set on the individual <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>κ</mi><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>W</mi></mrow></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>κ</mi><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>Z</mi></mrow></msub></math> coupling modifiers and on the allowed region in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msub><mrow><mi>κ</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>W</mi></mrow></msub><mtext>−</mtext><msub><mrow><mi>κ</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn><mi>Z</mi></mrow></msub></mrow></math> plane.

Search for Associated Production of a Higgs Boson and Two Vector Bosons via Vector-Boson Scattering at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math>

We present a comprehensive global analysis of Energy-Energy Correlation (EEC) data in electron-positron annihilation into hadrons, spanning a wide range of center-of-mass energies (7.7 GeV ≤ $$ \sqrt{s} $$ ≤ 91.2 GeV). In the back-to-back (two-jet) region, we resum to all orders the logarithmically-enhanced contributions up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N LL) accuracy. The resummed results are consistently matched to fixed-order calculations up to $$ \mathcal{O}\left({\alpha}_S^3\right) $$ . Our resummation formalism also incorporates dominant heavy-quark mass effects and models non-perturbative power corrections by means of an analytic dispersive approach. A simultaneous fit yields an excellent description of experimental data across all energies, enabling a precise determination of the strong coupling, $$ {\alpha}_S\left({m}_Z^2\right) $$ = 0.1192 ± 0.0028, as well as the non-perturbative parameters, including those characterizing the Collins-Soper evolution kernel. Our analysis includes, for the first time in a global fit, datasets from the ALEPH and AMY collaborations.

A global analysis of energy-energy correlation data: determination of $\textit{α}$ $\textit{S}$ and non-perturbative QCD parameters

We study the signatures of the chiral magnetic effect (CME) in <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>S</mi><mi>U</mi><mrow><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow></math> gauge theory with <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>N</mi><mi>f</mi></msub><mo>=</mo><mn>2</mn></math> flavors of dynamical fermions at finite temperature <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>T</mi></math>, quark chemical potential <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>μ</mi></math> and a weak external magnetic field <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>e</mi><mi>B</mi></math>. We consider both the correlator of the axial density and the vector current, which gives direct access to the out-of-equilibrium CME, and the correlator of two vector currents, which probes the CME indirectly via the enhancement of the longitudinal electric conductivity (negative magnetoresistance, NMR). We find that the CME response extracted from the vector-axial correlator exhibits a rather weak dependence on temperature and density in the quark-gluon plasma regime, and is very close to the universal value for free massless quarks. The CME appears to be mildly suppressed at low temperatures in the hadronic phase. In contrast, the NMR behaves in a qualitatively different way across the phase diagram, and is strongly suppressed at either large densities or temperatures. The magnitude of the NMR response appears to be considerably smaller than the prediction based on the lowest Landau level calculation for free quarks. Our findings suggest that for relatively small magnetic field strengths <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>e</mi><mi>B</mi><mo>≲</mo><msubsup><mi>m</mi><mi>π</mi><mn>2</mn></msubsup></math> the relation between the CME and NMR might not be as direct as expected. We also do not find statistically significant indications for an enhancement of the CME or NMR strength in the vicinity of the crossover or second-order phase transition lines in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mrow><mi>μ</mi><mo>,</mo><mi>T</mi></mrow><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> phase diagram.

Chiral magnetic effect and negative magnetoresistance across the phase diagram of finite-density <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>S</mi><mi>U</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> gauge theory

We present a study probing the Higgs self-coupling with the X-ray free-electron laser Compton $\textit{γγ}$ Collider (XCC) concept. The analysis is performed considering the $\textit{γγ}$ → $\textit{HH}$ → $$ bb\overline{bb} $$ channel and results are then extrapolated to obtain a projection on the Higgs self-coupling sensitivity that ranges between 7% and 12%. An ensemble of boosted decision trees is trained to discriminate between signal and backgrounds, paired with a genetic algorithm optimizer to combine the final classifier outputs. This study suggests that an X-ray FEL-based $\textit{γγ}$ collider is a powerful tool to probe the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking complementary to $\textit{e}$ $\textit{e}$ Higgs factories and future high energy hadron colliders.

Probing the Higgs self-coupling with an XFEL Compton $\textit{γγ}$ collider at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 380 GeV

We determine the $\textit{AdS}$ × $\textit{S}$ solution of type IIB superstring field theory (SFT) to the third order in the expansion with respect to Ramond-Ramond (RR) flux, demonstrate its supersymmetry from the SFT gauge transformations, and identify the massless RR axion in the spectrum of linearized fluctuations. We present an all-order solution in the pp-wave limit and comment on potential obstructions to, and the existence of, the all-order $\textit{AdS}$ × $\textit{S}$ solution.

On the $\textit{AdS}$ 5 × $\textit{S}$ 5 solution of superstring field theory

Motivated by the recent near-threshold enhancement in top-quark pair production reported by CMS and ATLAS, we study the $\textit{S}$-wave spectral structure of heavy-light systems containing a single top quark, namely $ t\bar{q} $ , $ t\bar{c} $ , and $ t\bar{b} $ , within the instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter formalism. Because the top quark decays on a timescale much shorter than the typical hadronization time, the discrete eigenvalues we obtain should be interpreted as model-dependent reference positions of possible quasi-bound heavy-light configurations, rather than as predictions for fully formed conventional hadrons. The numerical results indicate that the masses of these configurations lie close to the top-quark mass. For the $ t\bar{b} $ system, the masses of the first four $\textit{S}$-wave $ 0^{-} $ radial states are about $ 5.1 $ , $ 5.4 $ , $ 5.6 $ , and $ 5.7 $ GeV above the top-quark mass, respectively. For the $ t\bar{c} $ system, the corresponding values are about $ 1.9 $ , $ 2.2 $ , $ 2.5 $ , and $ 2.6 $ GeV. We also briefly discuss possible production and decay patterns at a qualitative level, which may serve as a reference for future dedicated phenomenological studies or for experimental constraints.

The single top quark $\textit{t}$-channel production cross section is measured in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC at $$ \sqrt{s}=5.02 $$ TeV, using data recorded with the CMS detector in 2017, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 302 pb , and resulting in the first CMS measurement of the process at that energy. Events with one electron or muon and two or more jets, among which at least one is identified as originating from a b quark fragmentation, are analyzed. The combined cross section of single top quark (tq) and single top antiquark ( $$ \overline{\mathrm{t}}\mathrm{q} $$ ) production is $$ \sigma \left(\mathrm{tq}+\overline{\mathrm{t}}\mathrm{q}\right)={25.5}_{-3.5}^{+3.6}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-3.9}^{+4.2}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.5\left(\mathrm{lumi}\right) $$ pb. The individual cross sections are measured to be $$ \sigma \left(\mathrm{tq}\right)={17.7}_{-2.7}^{+2.9}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-2.4}^{+2.6}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.3\left(\mathrm{lumi}\right) $$ pb and $$ \sigma \left(\overline{\mathrm{t}}\mathrm{q}\right)={6.7}_{-1.6}^{+2.4}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-2.5}^{+2.1}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.1\left(\mathrm{lumi}\right) $$ pb. Their ratio is measured to be $$ {\mathcal{R}}_{\mathrm{t}-\mathrm{ch}}={2.7}_{-0.8}^{+1.5}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-0.3}^{+1.2}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right) $$ . The absolute value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element is found to be |$\textit{f}$ $\textit{V}$ | = 0.92 ± 0.09(exp) ± 0.01(theo). The measurements are in good agreement with the standard model predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in quantum chromodynamics.

Measurement of the $\textit{t}$-channel single top quark cross section in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s}=5.02 $$ TeV

The measured (predicted) fiducial cross section is <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mrow><mn>60</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>22</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>27</mn></mrow></msubsup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mrow><mi>ab</mi></mrow></mrow></math> (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>47.56</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.04</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mrow><mi>ab</mi></mrow></mrow></math>). In anticipation of the new wave of ALICE experiments on particle-resonance correlation functions, we study the interaction of a kaon with the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi>D</mi><mrow><mi>s</mi><mn>0</mn></mrow><mo>*</mo></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2317</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> resonance. Assuming the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi>D</mi><mrow><mi>s</mi><mn>0</mn></mrow><mo>*</mo></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2317</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> to be a <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>D</mi><mi>K</mi></math> molecular state in isospin <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>I</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn></math>, we employ the fixed center approximation to describe the kaon scattering off the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>D</mi><mi>K</mi></math> cluster, and implement elastic unitarity in the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>K</mi><msubsup><mi>D</mi><mrow><mi>s</mi><mn>0</mn></mrow><mo>*</mo></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2317</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> amplitude via an optical potential and the Lippmann-Schwinger equation. We evaluate the scattering length, effective range, and correlation function, which exhibits a shape characteristic of a strongly attractive interaction. Notably, the amplitude develops a narrow resonant peak about 40 MeV below the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>K</mi><msubsup><mrow><mi>D</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>s</mi><mn>0</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo></mrow></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>2317</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow></math> threshold, signaling a three-body bound state. We discuss the experimental feasibility of observing this state through the invariant mass distribution of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>K</mi><msubsup><mi>D</mi><mi>s</mi><mo>+</mo></msubsup><msup><mi>π</mi><mn>0</mn></msup></math>, and argue that such three-body states, predicted by various theoretical approaches, offer promising targets for future experimental searches, providing valuable insights into the nature of exotic hadronic resonances.
