A comparative description is made of the measurements at LHC of pp elastic scattering at 13 TeV by the ATLAS and TOTEM Collaborations. In the total and differential cross sections we show that the differences are justified through single numerical factor. It seems that there is no fundamental physical difference, but only a difference of normalization between the two experiments. We study the real and imaginary amplitudes disentangled with the KFK (Kohara–Ferreira–Kodama) model and show that the properties are similar in qualitative aspects for both experiments. The real and imaginary parts have different slopes at the origin and present zeros, with distributions that are common to several models, with three zeros in the real part and one zero in the imaginary amplitude. A zero in the real part, known as Martin’s zero, influences the determination of the $$\rho $$ parameter.

Analysis of ATLAS pp elastic measurements at $$\sqrt{s}$$ = 13 TeV and comparison with TOTEM measurements

<p>A search for new physics in events featuring a single photon and missing transverse momentum is presented, using proton-proton <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>101</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC between 2017 and 2018. This analysis, combined with a previous study of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>36</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> of 2016 data (totaling <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>137</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>), reveals no significant deviations from standard model expectations. The results are then used to establish 95% confidence level limits on parameters in theoretical models involving dark matter and large extra dimensions. Compared to the 2016-only analysis, this search achieves up to a 14% improvement in exclusion reach for mediator masses in simplified dark matter models, along with 11% and 10% enhancements in the limits on the effective field theory suppression scale and the fundamental Planck scale, respectively. These results are the most stringent constraints on these parameters to date.</p>

Search for new physics in the final state with a single photon and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math>

<p>The first search for the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msubsup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mi>γ</mi></mrow></math> decay in the range <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>796</mn><mo>&lt;</mo><mi>m</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>1800</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math> is performed using data from proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>9</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The photons are reconstructed through their conversion into an electron-positron pair, which significantly improves the mass resolution of the reconstructed decays with respect to decays with an unconverted photon. A signal excess with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations is measured, constituting the first experimental evidence for this decay. In the range <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>796</mn><mo>&lt;</mo><mi>m</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>996</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math>, the ratio <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">R</mi></math> between the branching fractions of the signal decay and the favored <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mover accent="true"><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mo stretchy="true">¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mi>γ</mi></mrow></math> decay is measured to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi mathvariant="script">R</mi><mo>=</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3.7</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>1.2</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.4</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mrow><mn>10</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math> where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This measurement is consistent with the value predicted in the Standard Model. In the range <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>996</mn><mo>&lt;</mo><mi>m</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>&lt;</mo><mn>1800</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math>, the ratio <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi mathvariant="script">R</mi><mo>=</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>0.2</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>2.7</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>1.3</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>×</mo><msup><mrow><mn>10</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math> is measured.</p>
