New binning schemes for the Dalitz plots of $$D\to {K}_{\text{S}}^{0}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$$ and $$D\to {K}_{\text{S}}^{0}{K}^{+}{K}^{-}$$ decays are presented. These are determined using a new figure of merit for optimisation that better represents the sensitivity to $\textit{γ}$ than previous metrics. Further augmentation comes from including consideration of degeneracy with other physics parameters determined simultaneously and a more accurate treatment of relevant backgrounds. The overall expected improvement in the precision of $\textit{γ}$ measurements using $\textit{B}$ → $\textit{DK}$ decays, followed by $$D\to {K}_{\text{S}}^{0}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$$ , is estimated at around 5%. In addition, the first dedicated optimisation is performed for the observables relevant to charm mixing, $\textit{x}$ and ∆$\textit{x}$, in $$D\to {K}_{\text{S}}^{0}{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$$ decays. This procedure accounts for both statistical sensitivity and the migration of events between bins due to detector resolution. The resulting binning scheme leads to an estimated gain of approximately 20% in statistical sensitivity, while maintaining the bias due to bin migration at a level comparable to the currently used scheme.

We consider the photon-energy spectrum of the inclusive radiative decay $\textit{B}$ → $\textit{X}$ $\textit{γ}$, induced by the electromagnetic dipole operator $\textit{O}$ , to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order and calculate the complete corrections for light fermions, for the contributions with two closed massive fermion loops, and for the limit of large QCD colour factors $\textit{N}$ in the remaining part. We discuss the integrated decay rate both without and with a cut on the photon energy. In addition to the on-shell renormalization of the bottom-quark mass, we also consider the kinetic mass and the MSR mass schemes. The latter two lead to an improved perturbative behaviour of the decay rate.

Our results indicate that the mass is remarkably resistant to the medium across the entire multiplet: no state loses more than <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo>∼</mo><mn>13</mn><mo>%</mo></math> of its vacuum value, even at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>T</mi><mo>=</mo><msub><mi>T</mi><mi>c</mi></msub></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>n</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>5</mn><msub><mi>n</mi><mn>0</mn></msub></math>, the extreme conditions explored here. The decay constant is far more sensitive, losing up to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo>∼</mo><mn>78</mn><mo>%</mo></math> at the same point. Baryon density clearly dominates the medium response, while temperature plays a secondary role until the system approaches the deconfinement crossover. At zero density, every state loses almost the same fraction of its mass and decay constant: mass shifts lie between <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mo>−</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>0.5</mn><mi>–</mi><mn>1.1</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>%</mo></mrow></math> and decay-constant shifts between <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mo>−</mo><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mn>3.9</mn><mi>–</mi><mn>5.3</mn><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><mo>%</mo></math>, regardless of charge or flavor, so temperature alone does not distinguish a particle from its antiparticle. At finite baryon density, a clear particle-antiparticle asymmetry emerges: at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>T</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>0</mn></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>n</mi><mo>=</mo><mn>5</mn><msub><mi>n</mi><mn>0</mn></msub></math>, the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mover accent="true"><mi>B</mi><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mover><mrow><mo>*</mo><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup></math> mass decreases by 12.9%, whereas the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mrow><mo>*</mo><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup></math> mass shifts by only 6.1%, a gap of nearly seven percentage points driven entirely by the vector self-energy. This provides a theoretical basis for the future heavy-ion collision program at RHIC, LHC, FAIR, and NICA.

This paper presents a measurement of the charge-parity ($\textit{CP}$) structure of the Yukawa coupling between the Higgs boson (H) and tau leptons, using proton-proton collision data at $$ \sqrt{s}=13.6 $$ TeV recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 62.4 fb . Angular correlations between the decay products of tau leptons produced in H → $\textit{ττ}$ decays are exploited to constrain the effective $\textit{CP}$ mixing angle $\textit{α}$ , which parameterizes the admixture of scalar and pseudoscalar couplings. The mixing angle is measured to be $$ {\alpha}^{\mathrm{H}\tau \tau}={\left({36}_{-30}^{+33}\right)}^{{}^{\circ}} $$ , compared with an expected value of (0 ± 19) under the standard model hypothesis. When combined with the previous CMS measurement using data collected at $$ \sqrt{s}=13 $$ TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb , the mixing angle is determined to be (7 ± 16) , with an expected value of (0 ± 14) . This result represents the most precise measurement by CMS of the $\textit{CP}$ nature of the Higgs boson coupling to tau leptons, with an expected precision that is the best achieved by any experiment to date.

Analysis of the $\textit{CP}$ structure of the Yukawa coupling between the Higgs boson and tau leptons in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s}=13.6 $$ TeV

A search is presented for the production of a single narrow-width vectorlike <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>B</mi><mo>′</mo></msup></math> quark that decays to a <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></math> quark and a <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>W</mi></mrow></math> boson. This search targets a single-lepton final state, where a muon or electron originates either from the semileptonic decay of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></math> quark or from the leptonic decay of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>W</mi></mrow></math> boson, with the other particle decaying hadronically. The (semi)leptonic portion of the event is reconstructed from an electron or muon, missing transverse momentum, and a small-radius jet identified as a <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>b</mi></mrow></math> quark jet if the muon or electron originates from the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></math> quark. The hadronic portion of the event is reconstructed as a single large-radius jet. The originating particle of the large-radius jet is identified using a neural-network-based tagger, and the dominant background contributions are modeled from data using a neural autoregressive flow network. This is the companion paper to Pan and Yan [<a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.15695">arXiv:2410.15695</a> (2024)], containing all the details and series of examples on a 4D mirror symmetry for the class-<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">S</mi></math> theories which relates the representation theory of the chiral quantization of the Higgs branch and the geometry of the Coulomb branch. We study the representation theory by using the 4D/vertex operator algebra correspondence, (defect) Schur indices, and (flavor) modular differential equations, and match the data with the fixed manifolds of the Hitchin moduli spaces. This correspondence extends the connection between the Higgs and Coulomb branch of Argyres-Douglas theories, and can provide systematic guidance for the study of the representation theory of vertex operator algebras by exploiting results from Hitchin systems.

We study CP violation induced by neutral kaon mixing in $\textit{a}$ ($\textit{D}$ → $\textit{K}$ $\textit{K}$ ). We show that the contribution from neutral kaon mixing arises only in connection with second-order weak interactions in $\textit{D}$ decays. We estimate this effect to be at the 10 level, and thus negligible compared to current experimental sensitivity and to the expected contribution from CP violation in the charm sector. Similar reasoning can be applied to other systems.

Jets are collimated clusters of particles formed by the hadronization of partons following a hard interaction. In proton-proton (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>p</mi><mi>p</mi></math>) collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), jet production is dominated by <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>g</mi><mi>g</mi></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>q</mi><mi>g</mi></math> partonic processes, allowing us to directly probe the gluon parton distribution function (PDF) in the proton in a way complementary to deep inelastic scattering.
