A search for a pseudoscalar $\textit{a}$ produced in association with a top-quark pair, or in association with a single top quark plus a $\textit{W}$ boson, with the pseudoscalar decaying into $\textit{b}$-quarks ( $$a\rightarrow b\bar{b}$$ ), is performed using the full Run 2 data sample using a dileptonic decay mode signature. The search covers pseudoscalar boson masses between 12 and 100 GeV and involves both the kinematic regime where the decay products of the pseudoscalar are reconstructed as two standard $\textit{b}$-tagged small-radius jets, or merged into a large-radius jet due to its Lorentz boost. No significant excess relative to expectations is observed. Assuming a branching ratio $$\text {BR}(a\rightarrow b\bar{b})=100\% $$ , the range of pseudoscalar masses between 50 and 80 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level for a coupling of the pseudoscalar to the top quark of 0.5, while a coupling of 1.0 is excluded at 95% confidence level for the masses considered, with the coupling defined as the strength modifier of the Standard Model Yukawa coupling.

Search for a new pseudoscalar decaying into a pair of bottom and antibottom quarks in top-associated production in $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ TeV proton–proton collisions with the ATLAS detector

We analyze the supersymmetric defect indices of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 super Yang Mills theories which are simultaneously decorated by the BPS line operators and the boundary conditions. We demonstrate that the two-point functions of the boundary ’t Hooft lines of magnetic charges associated with the minuscule representations in the presence of the regular Nahm pole boundary conditions can be obtained by applying the Higgsing prescription to the half-indices of the Dirichlet boundary conditions. Accordingly, we find precise matching of the indices for pairs of the S-dual configurations with the Wilson lines and Neumann boundary conditions and those with the ’t Hooft lines and the regular Nahm pole boundary conditions. Alternatively, we analytically compute the indices by means of the inner product of the Macdonald polynomials to find the exact closed-form expressions.

S-duality of boundary lines in $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 SYM theories and supersymmetric indices

<p>A search for flavor-changing neutral current interactions of the top quark (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>t</mi></mrow></math>) and the Higgs boson (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math>) is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision data collected in 2016–2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. Events containing a pair of leptons with the same-sign electric charge and at least one jet are considered. The results are used to constrain the branching fraction (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi></math>) of the top quark decaying to a Higgs boson and an up (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>u</mi></math>) or charm (<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>c</mi></math>) quark. No significant excess above the estimated background was found. The observed (expected) upper limits at a 95% confidence level are found to be 0.072% (0.059%) for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>t</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>H</mi><mi>u</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow></math> and 0.043% (0.062%) for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>t</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>H</mi><mi>c</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>. These results are combined with two other searches performed by the CMS Collaboration for flavor-changing neutral current interactions of top quarks and Higgs bosons in final states where the Higgs boson decays to either a pair of photons or a pair of bottom quarks. The resulting observed (expected) upper limits at the 95% confidence level are 0.019% (0.027%) for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>t</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>H</mi><mi>u</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math> and 0.037% (0.035%) for <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi mathvariant="script">B</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>t</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>H</mi><mi>c</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></math>.</p>
