The factorization proposal claims that the codimension one “pinning defect,” on which a local relevant operator is integrated, factorizes the space into two halves in general conformal field theories in the infrared limit. In this paper, we study a two-dimensional long-range Ising model at criticality with a line defect or an interface, which physically corresponds to changing the local temperature on it. We show that in the perturbative regime, it is not factorizing even in the infrared limit. An intuitive explanation of the nonfactorization is that the long-range Ising model is equivalent to a local conformal field theory in higher dimensions. In this picture, the space is still connected through the “extra dimension” across the defect line.

Nonfactorizing interface in the two-dimensional long-range Ising model

The fundamental theorem in renormalization group flows in two dimensions is the $\textit{c}$-theorem, which dictates that the number of degrees of freedom must decrease monotonically along the renormalization group flow. The $\textit{k}$-theorem claims that the number of charged degrees of freedom also decreases monotonically. Here, $\textit{k}$ is the current central charge defined by the two-point function of the current. A recent derivation of the c-theorem by Hartman and Mathys, which uses the three-point function sum rule and the positivity of the averaged null energy (ANE) operator, motivates us to seek a similar proof of the $\textit{k}$-theorem. In the case of the $\textit{k}$-theorem, the partial contact terms need to be taken into consideration. While ignoring the partial contact terms yields contradictory results, our careful analysis incorporating them leads to the correct sum rule and a complete proof based on the positivity of the ANE operator.

Revisiting the $\textit{k}$-theorem with the ANEC

The charmed baryon was first observed experimentally in 1975, one year after the charm quark's confirmation via the discovery of the $ J/\psi $ particle. Studying charmed baryon decays provides a pathway to investigate both strong and weak interactions, leveraging the weak decays of the embedded charm quark. However, for approximately three decades following its discovery, experimental knowledge of charmed baryons remained significantly limited compared to those of the hidden-charm $\textit{ψ}$ mesons and open-charm $ D_{(s)} $ mesons. This situation changed markedly starting in 2014, when dedicated data collection for charmed baryons commenced at BESIII. In this article, we review the experimental progress achieved since 2014 in understanding the weak decays of the charmed baryons.

Electroweak (EW) amplitudes in the gauge-Goldstone five-component formalism have a distinctive property: gauge symmetry is imprinted in the amplitudes, manifested as the massive Ward identity (MWI) $ k^M{\cal{M}}_M=0 $ . In this study, we used the HELAS package to numerically study gauge symmetry in EW amplitudes. First, we directly tested gauge symmetry by examining the MWI of amplitudes. Second, we modified the couplings within a vertex and among vertices to check if and how the MWI changes. Third, we tested gauge symmetry by considering the couplings modified by operators from the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT). Similar to the standard model, there are relations between different couplings that are protected by gauge symmetry. We observed that, if we modify the couplings to deviate from the relations, the MWI is violated. In contrast, the MWI is restored when the relations between couplings reduce to those in the SMEFT.

It is long known that A-series minimal models and D-series minimal models are exchanged by gauging the invertible ℤ symmetry. More recently, it has been shown that A-series minimal models and E-series minimal models are exchanged by gauging a non-invertible symmetry. We complete the triality picture by showing that D-series minimal models and E-series minimal models are exchanged by gauging another non-invertible symmetry.

ADE triality via (non-)invertible symmetry gauging

The high-density region of the QCD phase diagram displays an intricate competition between color superconductivity and the QCD Kondo effect due to color exchange in quark matter containing a single heavy quark impurity. We explore the characteristic impurity-induced superconducting subgap states arising in such systems by generalizing the surrogate model solver, recently considered in the context of condensed matter physics [<a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.108.L220506">Phys. Rev. B 108, L220506 (2023)</a>]. The method consists of approximating the full superconducting bulk by only a small number of effective levels whose parameters are chosen so as to best reproduce the Matsubara frequency dependence of the impurity-bulk hybridization function. We numerically solve a surrogate QCD Kondo model describing a quantum impurity color exchange coupled to a two-color two-flavor superconducting bulk. The results directly indicate the presence of multiple phase transitions as the coupling of the impurity to the bulk is increased, due to the interplay between various overscreened states. The methods introduced here are straightforward enough to be extended to more realistic QCD scenarios.

Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states in color-superconducting quark matter

The extended Majorana Nicolai model is one of the simplest models of supersymmetry realized on a fermionic chain in 1 + 1 dimensions. Within a certain parameter region, the extended theory breaks the supersymmetry spontaneously, but it has a distinguished feature that the general counting rule of the Nambu-Goldstone mode does not apply: we observe twice as many low-energy degrees of freedom than the broken lattice symmetry. We argue that the extra degrees of freedom originate from the spontaneous breaking of the emergent chiral supersymmetry. This chiral supersymmetry becomes an emanant symmetry in the non-interacting limit.

Is chiral supersymmetry emanant or emergent?

We study $ \cos2\phi $ azimuthal asymmetry in doubly longitudinally polarized proton-proton Drell-Yan collisions within the transverse momentum dependent factorization framework. The asymmetry arises from the convolution of the longitudinal transversity distribution $ h_{1L}^{\perp} $ for both protons. Using the Bacchetta-Delcarro-Pisano-Radici-Signori parameterization for the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor and the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation for collinear $ h_{1L}^{\perp} $ , we predict the double spin asymmetry $ A_{LL}^{\cos2\phi} $ at RHIC and NICA kinematics. Our results demonstrate sensitivity to sea quark distributions, with the asymmetry reaching up to 25% for maximal sea quark contributions. These predictions highlight the potential of polarized Drell-Yan measurements to probe sea quark dynamics and advance our understanding of nucleon structures.

Energy-momentum tensor in general conformal field theories have improvement ambiguity and it can affect the argument in deriving c-theorem. While the derivation of Zamolodchikov’s c-theorem is still formally valid with the improved energy-momentum tensor, the behavior of the c-function proposed by Zamolodchikov becomes different. When the theory suffers an IR divergence due to the non-compactness, the c-function can be unbounded and may even show non-monotonicity. We find that one of the three-point function sum rule proposed by Hartman and Mathys motivated by the averaged null energy condition, however, is agnostic about the improvement and gives the (effective) Virasoro central charge, when the IR theory is gapped.

c-theorem and improvement in non-compact conformal field theories

Inspired by the possibility of emergent supersymmetry in critical random systems, we study a field theory model with a quartic potential of one superfield, possessing the Parisi-Sourlas supertranslation symmetry. Within perturbative <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>ε</mi></math> expansion, we find nine nontrivial scale-invariant renormalization group fixed points, but only one of them is conformal. We, however, believe scale invariance without conformal invariance cannot occur without a sophisticated mechanism because it predicts the existence of a nonconserved but nonrenormalized vector operator called virial current, whose existence must be nongeneric. We show that the virial current in this model is related to the supercurrent by supertranslation. The supertranslation Ward-Takahashi identity circumvents the genericity argument, explaining its nonrenormalization property.
